Default It's Over - now the Day after

Had a great season .. one special 6 point elk eluded me to the end and I have no regrets .. He's there for next year . Got a nice whitey buck and my partner got his draw moose in the 46 incher class .. For the most part the weather was great .. Already planning for next year , is that sick or what ... LOL

this season overall score ----- 8
It was a hum dinger

how'd your season go

I hate hunting. All season I saw 4 deer and driving back home yesterday, 12 are feeding right beside my house.... I knew it! They are doing the " missed me, missed me. Now you gotta kiss me" dance

Don't tell my wife that. She's looking forward to 9 months of no hunting.

For some of us the season hasn't even started. My brother pulled bull moose on wainwright. Burned a p11 for the last season because I'll be home to go with him. We should of pulled the muzzle loader or first rifle season but I had to work. As that moose is feeding both of our families this year I spent my fall shooting grouse with the boys and thanks to the late bird season I'll be taking them out later this month when I get home.

As Fred Bear once stated, one season simply rolls into the other with prep work, practise and scouting!

My wife, nephew and buddy all have antlerless elk tags yet to fill. Hopefully we find some sooner than later. Myself i had a pretty good year, held out and got the buck i was looking for. Now coyote season has officially started for me.

It was okay. A lot more discouraging than I would have liked but I still enjoyed what time I had. I find it hard for a new person to get into it and have any clue what they are doing without any friends or family that hunt (especially being from the city which seems to be frowned upon).

However thankfully mulies are dumb and I was able to harvest my first big game animal, a little spiker in 148. White tails are way harder to hunt than I thought despite how much time I spent in the field so I will be doing a lot more reading and you-tubing before next year. No goose hunting this year because of how wonky the weather has been. I still have an antlerless elk to harvest in January north of GP with some guys from work on private land so hopefully I have some better luck there.

I was truly blessed this season. I had a 1/2 day to hunt on the 4th of November and was able to fill my antlerless mule deer draw and was stuck out of province until the last three days of November. At 10:30 am on the 29th I filled my antlered moose draw. I may never be rewarded as much ever again. I look forward to some grouse hunting and maybe even hard water fishing to round out the year.

It never ends for me, scouting and staying in tune with the game in my area is paramount to success. I will take a one or two week rest and then I will chase wolves and coyotes till shed season. I had a very enjoyable season and all I shot myself was a wolf. I focused on a big nontyipical whitetail I never even got to lay my eyes on, right down to the last minute of legal light. The freezer is full though. I was in on a bull elk and moose with my hunting partner and he generously shared 1/2 of each with me. Near the end of the season my 12 year all son was able to take his first bull elk and that meant more to me than shooting 5 myself. We will likely share that elk with someone that will enjoy some elk meat. An enjoyable year.

I skipped the entire big game season in order to work with the pup on birds, but I will be getting out for coyotes over the winter, then ground squirrels come spring, and next year, I intend to draw my pronghorn and hopefully Camp Wainwright moose.
