Default NWTF calls it quits!!

The NWTF has suspended fundraising operations in Canada indefinitely due to Canada's tax structure.....

Maybe in Ontario, but never heard of the doing much here anyway. Will we miss them?

don't understand why they've reduced the opportunities here in alberta(SRD)?

was hoping the NWTF could help with "actual" population numbers.

The NWT here in Alberta did a lot of work and was starting to grow its membership.
Considering it was a fairly new chapter it takes time to get things going.
Rome wasn't built over night.

As stated "relatively new" in Alberta....
They were gonna help in a trap and transfer from Manitoba to Alberta, and would have flipped the bill or atleast a good percentage of it....NOT NOW!
The focus is the wild turkey but Hunting Heritage and Conservation as a whole are the main priority...
Through the "GRAPEVINE" I heard that the Super Funds will stay here, which is good..
A bunch of us will be getting together in the next couple weeks to discuss the possibility of putting something else together to replace them....

What's the problem with Canada's "tax structure"? We're they trying to get charity status or something? Lots of other organizations operating in Canada and within the rules.

Does anyone know?

I remember RMEF had problems operating in Canada... Iirc it had to do with transferring Canadian property (assets) into the US branch of the organization's name... or was it transferring cash from the US organization to the Canadian branch?

That was a while back, so I could be way off the mark.

Default NWTF leaves Canada

Effective January 6th the NWTF will no longer be fundraising or active in Canada. This was the official verdict of a vote by the NWTF Board of Directors on Jan 3rd.
The NWTF had been active here in Alberta for the last ten years and recently, working with help from AFGA,was instrumental in getting a management plan proposed for the management of our wild turkey flocks.
Yes, it is true that all of the funds raised within Alberta through the banquets past will be available and staying here in Alberta!
The work started will be continuing in the province with a management plan and future trap and transfers being the goal. Alberta Fish and Game Association will be key in making sure the work started will continue.
As for the reason behind the exit from Canada, yes tax problems / structure was the main reason given.
