Well, I found myself with a little free time on my hands recently, so I decided to do a little alcohol stove experimenting.

I got myself an 8" cast iron pan (clearly weight isn't an issue here) and diced up a tater and a couple cheese smokies that were leftover from fishing yesterday, and then cracked an egg on top of that mess at the end and then threw the works into a couple buns.

All said and done it worked very well, and I don't think it took much longer than it would on any other kind of stove (without burning my lunch), though I do acknowledge that this was done under ideal conditions in my basement.

Taters

Taters and diced up smokies

+1 egg (should have had 2)

And the whole mess on a bun

I could handle doing breakfast something like this in the tent while ice fishing for sure.

I used a penny can stove with some 1/2" wire mesh for a pan stand. No idea how much fuel was used but I got it all cooked in one fill of the stove.

I forgot to add, Uncle Ben's fast & fancy rice or whatever it is works well on the little alcohol burner as well

I found a pretty cool little stove attachment that goes onto those mini Propane tanks, Worked very well, Cant wait to try something new in it next time

Does anyone besides MEC have the stoves in Calgary. Their anti-hunting stance puts them on my "only if I have to" vendor list.

These guys handle a lot of Trangia. Prices might be higher.

I bought two triangle stoves from them.

I am in Calgary but I have some family up North, and I am not in a huge rush I have about 100 of those canned heats, The one with the wick.

I guess how much wick you pull out determines the flame the first test it took 15 min to boil 2 cup of water, inside! So a little slow. I was amazed on how efficient the meta 50 cook set is with the heat. it seemed to suck up most of the BTU's the canned heat was putting out.
