Default Round Up 80 Ranch for sale

Norm Ward is selling his 3000 hectare piece of land in the Porcupine hills.

$19 mil. price tag though. I wonder if he would take a check?

Quite a place for sure....

I doubt it will sell to another rancher tho....maybe the Province will throw in and make another park out of it.

What might happen is a group of ranchers form a co-op to buy it.

Every member of the Board and Alberta Fishand Game Association and SCI should be forming a co-op and buying up this place and keep it.

It would be damned far sighted for Alberta Outdoorsmen Organizations to get together and start buying these areas. The land could be leased for grazing and it could also be and incredible wildlife area. Just think in a hundred years what a legacy it would be for hunters and fishermen?

Well over priced. I know the area well and a large part of the $19M price tag is based on the possibility of a energy company setting up a major wind mill operation on the land.
Funny how the article talk's about preserving the land and not wanting to sell to just anyone, yet setting up 50-60 ( I'm speculatinghere) huge windmills seems OK.
Not trying to start something here...just find the article some what twisted.

Oh well, Hope the new owner is also hunter friendly.

Thats like $2240 an acre and you don't even own all of it, some of it's lease. Thats stinking expensive for ranch land. You could never pay for that through ranching alone, it just wouldn't make sense for adjacent ranchers. As wildlife habitat i don't think any Alberta organizations could spit out that kind of money even if it is good native range. I could see $1000 an acre being reasonable for conservation groups, but there would be a lot better bang for your buck in other areas of Alberta.
