The "City of Champions" slogan had absolutely nothing to do with sports teams.

Easy there, Oilers need more than the second coming to even get out of the basement, like a goalie and a few high end seasoned vets.

If they happen to make the playoffs this year it will likely be because of a change in management and a new coach, not McDavid.

I get a kick out of hockey fans and this Edmonton/Calgary rivalry when it gets so crazy.....sheesh

They decided to go with this instead:

Thanks for sharing that, I new it had nothing to do with sports in the city as well you know there is nothing to cheer about but it is fun to grasp at miracles!

Maybe not for their athletes but they can put on a good show:

2014 Ranking of Sports Cities for an international ranking of No. 11.

And getting a real #1 goal tender!

Which the Oilers did in getting Cam Talbot, and the coup was they got him for 3 late round draft choices.

I'm genuinely curious, has it provided any consolation over the last nine years that the Oilers wondering 5 cups 30 years ago? Ive been hearing about those cups alot over the recent years, because frankly thats all Oilers fans have to fall back on, just wondering if it helps or its just a brave face when attempting to ridicule other teams?

Since 2008, no NHL team has had a worse record. Things are looking up though. I know there is still time, but I'd still like to see them ship out Hall. The stories I've heard of his off ice behaviour leave me wondering about his influence in the room. Ideally they'd bring in a veteran who has won (at least has some playoff experience) in the past and can provide some leadership. Maybe a guy like Krejec, Burns, Ladd, Backes, etc.

I'd slow down there a bit big shooter. He definitely isn't a "real 1# goal tender" yet with only 59 games played in the NHL. Remember how good Scrivens was in LA? He had better numbers than Talbot. There were reasons thats all the NYRs got for him, likely including UFA next year, small sample size playing on the Presidents winning team, again, small sample size but poor numbers in the playoffs, and average to below average AHL stats from when he played in the league. I would likely have made the move as well though, as its a chance it really works in the Oilers favor, but lets wait till he is t given the No. 1 job and has played some games.

When there is a rivalry between two teams that havent really done much in the last ten years then we need to dig up some history, so yes there is some consolidation, as for hall and some experience agreed, i think we should send him to the coast

Cups in the last 10 years:

Edmonton - 0
Calgary - 0

And talk about living in the past, flames fans are no better. If I hear about the 2004 cup run one more time I am going to puke.

Let's just see how the season goes and go from there!

Both Alberta teams have been constant losers during the current century, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
