Older minty Stainless Marlin in 45-70

I have a friend wants be to buy this rifle from him, i have no idea what a minty 2005 marlin is worth these days, can you fine fellas please give me an Idea how much I should be paying for this great looking rifle.....thanks FS

Sky is the limit on those right now. Very hard to find. I've seen some on CGN listed for $2500! I have no idea what you could really get for it. Crazy prices on those. Sorry can't help you on it.

Not only are the Stainless listed for $2,500, they are selling for that and more. Prices may come down once the Rugers are available but there are lots of stories of those going for 3 grand on U.S. auction sites.

I was offered $2500 last year for my 1895 SBL. It's a 2017 model iirc.

I guess you have to decide what it is worth to you. If it’s from a friend maybe he will give you a deal. Myself I wouldn’t pay more than $1500.

Havent seen a SBL for sale locally in about 6months or so. That SBL should be a jm stamped so as far as collecting goes it commands premium over a remlin. However as a shooter it may or may not be. I have a jm stamped 336 from 07 that from factory has rifling that looks like it was cut with a cheese grater and the front sight was canted.it still shoots great for a 30-30 but it's far from a perfect rifle.my neighbor bought a used mid 2000s guide in 444 because it was jm stamped thinking it was better than the remlins....it also had a horribly canted front sight ... the later model JMs seemed to be made on old used up equipment and were not much better than rem made models....I had a std 1895 that was perfect in every regard as well as a 2019 dark that has been fantastic. As for price when I bought my dark in fall 2020 new SBLs were like 1800$my dark was 1300$ new off the shelf. By spring 2021 a used SBL sold off a LGS shelf and asking price was 2800$...not sure how much it went for but it didn't stay on the shelf long. Now that ruger made Marlins are being shipped used prices might drop but it will be a while yet before they make it onto most cdn gun store shelves.. will that mean prices will come down on used....maybe but they are still selling stateside for over 2k....question is how much are you willing to pay?...your friend would not likely be unreasonable to ask 2500-2800 for a mint jm..remember though in that year you may be getting a rougher jm than earlier years....but if it were me I'd likely not pay much more than 1800$ seeing as within a year you should be able to buy a new one for close to that price....if it were me and it wasnt something I HAD to have I'd either pay way under what the inflated prices are or wait.if you HAVE to have it and he wants top dollar I'd guess he could get close to 25-2800$ judging by supply/demand right now.

I would assume original JM marlins will command a higher price than remlins because of the QC issues at first. I’ve been looking for an 1895g since last April. Going prices are all over the board from 1000$ to 3500$. Most stainless are about 500$ more than blued. SBL are around 2000$usd and up. New ruger SBL on auction sites are starting around 900$ and ending up north of 3000$. A lot of buy now prices are set at 3500$. I have been told they will probably be sold at msrp from a local dealer. I have one on hold once it arrives so I’ll let AO know what I get it for usd when it arrives.

Are the 336 models in the same desired category as the 1895.
Obviously caliber specific.

Are the 336A, 336RC models seeing any preference in your search results.

JM models are about the only thing I am seeing come up. I only check out 35 rems as I still have t found my replacement. Prices have doubled and most are selling around 1000$ USD and up. Haven’t seen any recent remlins as most are from 50s 60s. One day I’ll find my replacement! Perfect brush gun.

35s are great guns my best friend had one...it walloped deer pretty good. Have you tried a 45-70? I find loaded moderately with a good heavy cast they are a comfortable step up from the 35rem. Where the 35 is a step up from a 30-30 I find the 45-70 to be miles ahead of both for hammering big game up close.

Nope never shot a 45/70 but I have my name on a wait list for the new ruger marlins. I have always loved the 35 though. Heck it was a Remington model 8 in 35 they used to stop Bonnie and Clyde.

I hope you get your hands on a good 45-70. If you like short to mid range power the 45-70 is hard to beat. It doesnt even have to knock your fillings out to perform well on game.
