Default Finally, a government decision that make sense

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...979624?cmp=rss

It's always annoyed me to see construction zone speed limits and there is no one working in them, and obviously no equipment active. I strongly support the reduction in speeds IF there is work being done, but if no one is there?

This is a good move, finally. It just makes sense.

I thought Klein had done something similar about "phantom construction zones" as he called them.

Start fining the construction companies when they don't cover the signs, as the regulations require.

Yes its about time, doing 60 k in the middle of nowhere for miles with no one in sight is annoying and its dangerous drivers lose patients then just ignore the signs if you call wolf too many times nobody takes them seriously.

Too bad Brian Mason didn't get the Environment portfolio.

I've seen photo radar at the Crowchild Trail bridge reconstruction on numerous occasions when there were no workers there, but admittedly I have no idea if those tickets we being mailed out as standard fines or 'enhanced'.
The construction zone speed limit signs do say 'when workers are present' after all.

SOME do, but many don't. In addition, I've driven many kilometers along a "construction stretch" and no one was there.

If you read the press release it clearly says:

" New rules for construction zones on Alberta highways require contractors to cover speed reduction signs when there aren't any workers on site and if there aren't any safety hazards "

So who decides what is or is not a " Safety Hazard " could the construction company deem barricades or pylons or reduced lane width's as a Safety Hazard therefore leaving up the reduced speed signs 24/7 even when workers are not present ????

Just saying

Still amazes me how many times they set up a zone, make a big deal in the beginning of it with signage, and at least 50% of the time , do not put up an end of zone sign, it's just go when you see the last pylon.

YES YES YES , this is really annoying !!! Should always be an " End of Construction...Resume speed " sign

Most times , you can see/fingure out when the end is , but technically , legally you are required to drive whatever the " last posted speed limit " is/was .

And by the same thinking , tickets could be issued as still a construdtion zone .

This always drives me crazy I really can't believe that this hasn't already been addressed, but thankfully they are fixing it

That's good for most construction zones, though for some zones where the lanes are narrowed and there are some tight corners it may be better to keep the lower speed in place. I'm thinking again of the reference I already used earlier in this thread in Calgary at the Crowchild Trail bridge reconstruction (over the Bow river) where there are very tight merges and abrupt lane offsets with three lanes of traffic and narrowed lanes.

I got stopped by a Sheriff on Peace River hill in an unmanned construction zone in October and got a ticket. Said I was going 72 in a 50. Wrote on the ticket 55in a 50. Paid the $89 ticket online

Yes this annoys the heck out of me, but I could also swear this was done by Klein in the 90's.

BC highways notorious for this. No end construction signage and no workers in sight through the construction zone either. Ya put it up and leave it up. We might be back in a week or 2
