Default How many of you use a 25-06

I was wondering who else here uses the 25-06 for deer and yotes. Im thinking of using mine on elk next year. Since my dad and my uncle have both cleanly killed elk wth theirs. Mine is my only rifle since im only 15 and it was a great beginners rifle. I think i will always own one one since their flat shooting and light recoiling. Mine is a model 700 cdl with a bushnell 3200 3-9x40 with a harris bipod on it also.

I use one regularly. A tikka 695, loaded with 100 gr bullets. It's my favourite rifle.

I use one. With good bullet placement it will do the job, the same as a 338 mag.

My main hunting partner uses a T3 Lite in 25-06, very accurate, shot it to 500 yrds one day, only shot the one 3 shot group at 500 and it was just under 3":eek . So far he's only used it for coyote calling because we both do our big game with bow but it sure flattens everything it touches in that regard....he'll probably shoot that caliber until the end too.

Default 25-06

Well as it happens I am on my second 25-06. The first was a Stevens that was inexpensive just incase I didn't care for deer hunting. Well wouldn't ya know it, now I have a custom 7x57, a 308 HB, and a new Sako 25-06. Both the 7x57 and the 25-06 are quite light recoiling and are fun to shoot at the range as well as to hunt with. The first load that I used was a factory Federal Premium load with 115gr Nosler Partition, and it worked very well on the first two mulie does that I shot. Then a friend suggested that he make a custom load for my gun and that turned out to be 100gr Barnes TSX, a fine cartridge that was about 2 inches low at 300 meters at the Medicine Hat range. I too had a bipod on my rifle then this season I decided to try the Stoney Point shooting sticks, which I now favor over a bipod, as find it more comfortable to shoot from a sitting position, they go together quickly, and are quite a bit lighter to carry all day vs a bipod. A good padded sling is also very user friendly for hiking around southern Alberta.FS Say Rubber I thought you were a Whelen man these days?

Default Whelen

Fasteel,
I shot the hell out of my Whelen this summer and fall but never did find my 1" load for it.I have to get the trigger done on when I get near Bashaw again.I really want to see if the gun will preform but I don't want to buy the ammo for it when I can load for a third of the price. It will be this summers project.
Hey are you ever coming for your trailer? It is not in the way I was just wondering. We are now in the new house and my new taxidermy shop out on the farm.

All these with 100grain pills in the 25'06

This one was taken by a buddy using a 115grain pill.

The only thing I will say is for the 25'06 to shine you gotta have as long of pipe as you are willing to handle. Mine is 25", my buddies is 26", anything less than 24" is a waste of powder, buy a 257Roberts.
