Actually, a train has a very low coefficient of friction once it get rolling. Grain elevator operators used to have a long lever device, fit on the track, under a wheel and lever away to where you wanted the car for loading.

Yes, they did. However all of the sidings were not level and had a slight grade or slope the track was built on. Once you got the car started to role it rolled as result of it's own gravitational force. One direction only moving a car upslope was a real fight. I suspect this guy was pulling down hill so to speak.
