Default 22LR shortage, when will it end??

anybody found any info on when this whole supply/demand thing will balance itself back out?

I'm getting tempted to get a 17 HMR!

I'm guessing when our neighbours to the south of us stop fearing that their government is going to take their guns from them, and stop hoarding ammo.

I'm glad I stocked up a few months ago bought 2 bricks. I hope it ends soon, I don't want to buy another gun.

I don't really think its hoarding, but there is a shortish supply and it is gopher season. And being nice out, people are getting out there to shoot more.

The shortage will end about fall to late fall and the stores will be stocked up in winter. Take the opportunity to buy several thousand of whatever you will be shooting for the next year, or a little better. Or whatever it will take to keep you in ammo for over a year.

There was a fair bit just a couple months ago. Same deal with centerfire stuff too, definitely less on the shelves now.

IMHO, the scarcity is caused by the failure of our 'just in time' supply strategy to adjust to the huge increase in new shooters as well as those who want to learn and practice affordably.

IMHO, people talking as if the scarcity is caused by hoarding is a major part of the problem, as suppliers are reluctant to make the investment needed to expand production capacity to meet demand they fear is temporary.

Similarly, shooters have failed to invest in needed consumables in sufficient quantity to sustain their shooting activities.

When I was in TX for aprox a 1 - 1.5 years I never saw 1 box of .22 shells on a shelf ...ever. Also the only .223 ammo I saw was 2 boxes at a gun shop, you had to buy a bushmaster to get a box though. 2 boxes of shells and 2 guns for them was all they had. This gun store was the size of Bass Pro and only had maybe 20 -30 guns tops left mostly odd ball calibes no one wanted and a dismal ammo supply. Big time fear in the US about new guns laws that may or may not be coming. The locals I knew were ordering their ammo from Montana mostly and other Northern states. Shelves picked clean. Concidering most of the ammo is made in theUS we are lucky they are even shipping it North of the border with the shortage in the US.

From how difficult I have found getting certain ammo this year wish I had picked up a few extra boxes myself.

.22 shells though I have seen periodically this spring but usually buy a brick every time one comes up. Don't want to get caught with no .22 ammo I enjoy shooting it too much.

It seems to be mostly in larger citys because i seem to be able to find them in lots of smaller towns still. In fact i took this picture a few days ago to bug my friend in montana. Found in a small town in bc. Top shelf is shorts cb's and mini mags bottom shelf was a mix of mini mags, stingers and federal bulk packs. He also carried a few cases of peters and winchester bulk packs.

Haha we'll let me do a count. I have two boxes of the winchester wild cats that I find really crappy in my .22s. Maybe I'll sell those and it's a full box of 525 and maybe a half box.

I guess if I decided to liquidate my stores, I could make a lot of money.

I'm not sure exactly how much I have - I would take an educated guess at around 25,000.
