Best WMU for cow elk
Putting in the draws for antlerless elk right now and might pair it with a bull moose, have a few options - 346, 353, 360 and 356. Leaning towards 346 and 356. Which one would you guys put in for?
Thanks

I would put in for the area you are already familiar with (assuming you are) that has elk. Going to new ground is a crap shoot unless you have days to burn in advance scouting.

We used to put in for cow elk in 356 until we went two years without harvesting one. Last season was also a first of not getting a bull moose in 356. I personally don't think the numbers of game are that good these days.

I got my cow elk in wmu 360 last year, and hope to do it again this year. there are lots of elk here in the late season. the herd I got my elk out of had over 150 head. the problem in this area is gaining acsess to the private hay fields. it takes years to build the trust of the locals here. Good luck!

elk
If you want reasonable elk success you need to go to the Grand Prairie or Peace River WMU,s. Almost 80% of the elk harvested in the province come from the agriculture areas in that part of the province. Some of the wmu,s you mentioned take at least a priority 5 just to get drawn, 5 year wait for a tag.

I know if I don't get my cow elk draw this year I am going to pull the Landowner Tag.

Getting drawn is the easy part, finding a landowner to allow you access when the elk are actually on their property is not going to be easy. You can always Bushwack on crown land I guess.

Seems like every year I'm lucky enough to get my cow elk anywhere I draw. Last year was 338, year before was 234. But I agree it's getting the permission that makes or breaks the hunt. It's especially frustrating in the zones where the hunt boundaries are limited to the farm lands (338 for example). The idea is to target the problem elk, but on the other hand the farmers hardly allow hunting on their land. Defeats the whole purpose SRD is aiming for. But non the less I seem to be successful. Lucky I guess. Sometimes taking a chance in a new wmu pays off

I agree completely, I put in for new zones for the adventure and challenge. Opportunities are everywhere just waiting to be capitalized on!
