Default Crawling Valley Burbot

I spent last night on Crawling Valley trying to catch my first Burbot with no luck. I'm in 16 FOW on a sandy basin just north of the boat launch and marked something on the flasher but no bites. Using glow jigs with minnows on them dead stick about a foot off the bottom.

I was reading the east side may have more of them? And are they shallower at this time of year?

I'm gonna stay late this evening so any tips or advice for tonight would be greatly appreciated!

Often tight to bottom as well. If I see a burb on the camera or under the shack I am dropping the bait right on bottom and often get them to bite. Also just bouncing your bait off bottom stirring it up can help attract them.

Move closer in towards the island and stay in the 4-8 FOW they most often will just suck the bait in and not move, check the dead stick many times and carefully, feel for weight before bringing the hook out of the water.

Also as posted bounce the jig off the bottom it will many times trigger some action.

I moved to the east side near one of the little islands and found a good shallow basin, but it has short weeds all over. Should I go deeper to the wee line or just stay over the weeds?

And thanks for the tips, I'll definitely try jigging near/on the bottom.

How’s it out there tonight? Been wanting to check it out the past few weeks but haven’t had the chance. Thinking about making the drive out tonight.

Lots of pike and I'm sure walleye if you tried. No wind and about 30" of good ice. Changed locations and still no burbot - had something bite but it got off.

Couple tips: 1) don’t set the hook too quick when you feel a bite because sometimes burbot chew on it a bit, 2) set up a dead rig fairly close to your jigging hole because the jigging will bring them in and they could hit either, 3) large, heavy glow jig to thump the bottom with a slow repetition
