I am looking for the most accurate factory ammo for my 1950s Husky 1640 30.06 deer rifle. I will work on reloads at another time. It has a 1 in 12 twist and 24 inch barrel. I have shot a bunch of ammo through it. And it seems to group better with 150 and 165 grain bullets compared to the 180 grain. And Fusion and Rem Corlocs seem to work well. I get 1-1/4 groups constantly at 100 yards off a bipod and hot barrel so I'm sure it can do better. My question is with a 1 in 12 twist, what bullet weight would usually be most accurate? I understand that 1 in 12 twist favors lighter bullets, is that correct?

With that twist you would be best suited in the 150-165 range in a perfect world. I have a 1-10" twist on my .30-06 and have found an accurate load from everything from 150-180 grains.

Youre over thinking twist. 1-12 will shoot any normal hunting bullet well.

If the Fusions are shooting that well out of that rifle grab more boxes of them and go hunting.

1 in 12 will handle up to and including 200 grain bullets as long as they aren't some sort of long tom vld design.

Go simple with your bullet choice. The more guchi the bullet with all those integrated design features, the greater the odds are for something to get outta wack.

I bought 12-15 different boxes factory ammo from different manufactures and different weights. Just as in your gun the Rem CoreLokt 150gn and Fusion Soft Point 150gn turned out to be the most accurate ones. Once back from the range, I bought another 10 Rem CoreLokt boxes and killed many many deer with them.
Later on I started reloading and still have some of them for sale.

Don't worry about theory, go with what your rifle is telling you. You posted that it shoots best with150 to 165gr bullets so stick with bullets in that weight range.

I had the same rifle and it didn’t give a rats behind.
Shot all weights pretty much the same.
Nothing wrong with 1 1/4” groups for a deer gun as long as you know where the first shot is going at different ranges.
I landed on 168 ttsx for all big game.

I've been working up some loads for my 1640' 180 gr win PP,
45.8 gr of Varget .375"grp @ 2443fps
54.5 gr of Win 760 .625" grp @ 2712 fps
61.5 gr of RL22 .625" grp @ 2704 fps
So the HVA 1640's can shoot the 180gr bullets well,
