7mm-08 reloads??

Hi all,

My wife recently pulled an elk tag here in Saskatchewan and I was wondering what everyone is using for an elk bullet/recipe out of this cartridge?

I was thinking something along the lines of a Barnes 140 TTSX??

Those should work fine. I'm going with 140gr Interlocks, they have worked well for moose.

The 140 TTSX, Accubond, Interbond, or Partition would all be great choices. At 7mm-08 velocities, the interlock should also do well.

I think your on the right track with the 140 TSX or the 139 gr GMX. Not sure of what range you may be shooting at but anything under 350 yrds or so you could bump up to 150 gr TTSX or a Nos PT . Good luck .

You will not go wrong with a quality 140 grain bullet. A Barnes TSX/TTSX would be my first choice, closely followed by a Nosler Partition.

I load 140 grain ballistic tips for my wife. They work great because of the guns slower velocity.

I'd run a 120 TTSX hot and fast, and chase elk with confidence!

My brother, dad, use 120 TSX's in their 7mm-08's and I have also used them. They will do the trick on Elk, but if I was hunting Elk specifically I would go to the 140's. The 120's seem to get hung up in deer sized game an awful lot.

I was running 120 TSX out of mine. I never had an issue with it. I wouldn't be afraid to hunt elk with it.

I was using IMR 4350. The 140 TSX would also be a great choice.

I've been trying to work up a load for the 140ttsx with no luck yet,imr4350 seemed to be a little slow so I'm going to try varget and see how that works.

I had better results with varget over imr4350 using the 120ttsx pushing 3000fps out of a sako a7. Max load with the imr4350 out of my rifle with the 120 was 2850fps.

Would like to see 2850fps with the 140s

140 partition and ww760/CCI200 has worked just fine for me on 3 moose and an elk, that were opportunity shots, when I was out hunting deer.

145gr. Speers with Win 748 works well in my wife's rifle.

Load some different brands and go do some testing to find out what bullet, powder combo works best in your wife's rifle, plus it is great practice.

I have loaded heavier bullets BUT they failed to expand on deer so never tried them on anything larger. Another great premium bullet to try is Woodliegh's

Proven load for many people is re15 with 120 ttsx. Between 41 and 43 grains, lots for moose and elk, just don't do length wise.

I would have a serious look at the Swift scirroco 150gr bullets. There is a supplier in Salmon Arm BC, accurate bullet company. I'm ordering some later this week and will let you know how they work.

Try H4350 with the 140 TTSX work great for a few of us on the AO

Well since no one mentioned it I will. varget! I have had good luck around 42 gr with 140 accubonds. Chronographed at just over 2800 fps.

IMO, the best advice is to choose 2 or 3 "hunting" bullets and load test them for accuracy. Some bullets just don't seem compatible with some guns in terms of accuracy. Decide what characteristic you want in a bullet - ie: one that holds together for penetration, or one that comes apart inside the animal.
