Yes, but most action with these occurs in the spring and then especially in the fall.

Using s bobber / indicator fly of piece of yarn is anything but new .

People from Barry White and Lee Wolff use/used indicators occasionally so get off your high horse .
You wanna use only a dry fly and cast to rising trout go ahead but don’t think fir second you are better than anyone else , that just smacks of snobbery .

I ran into a guy who used the filter from his cigarette as a body for a boatman, and then wrapped it up very tight when he tied the body. He was using a weight forward fast sinking line, and would let it go down deep. He then started stripping with hard jerks and was just killing the fish with his experiment. The body core material had the boatman floating up, and the sinking line when yanked had the fly darting down and floating back up.

Very realistic and effective.

Hmmm, wonder if Phil Rowley or Brian Chan would agree you? I guess if one were to use a foam based fly as a bobber...er strike indicator, it would then meet your criteria of a fly fisherman?

I know a lot of very good stillwater fisherman that can outfish the average Joe 10 to 1 on a consistent basis. It's usually a result of the time they took to educate themselves.
