Default Fur prices 1940-2020

Just compared average prices 2 trappers in BC received for their fur in 1930-1950. The price required in todays inflated dollar $ we would need to have same buying power. Fisher $1074, Marten $647, Weasel $165, Mink $289, and Beaver $561. How does that compare to your last FHA prices the generous Chinese and Koreans payed or even last 10 years average price before Corona.

Would be interesting to know what they used to get for coyotes and wolves.

BC had limited coyote population in 40's especially in deep bush country. The early day trappers claimed they eventually migrated from Alberta. Also BC had a vigorous wolf extermination program during the rabies period in 50's.
They averaged $165 wolf Bounty or $3120/wolf in 2020 $$$.

Prices for pelts back in the early 1900's were high because fur was still king. Everyone important had to have a fur coat or three. In the mid 1900's there were a few full time furriers opened in Edmonton alone. Now there is maybe one furrier. Few people wear fur now and fur is not the status symbol it once was.

I like Gene Walters comment in his trapping book. He worked a 10 TWP trapline west of Sunset house/Valleyview. His comment was "Trapping is a way to make a lot of money in a very short time" That was in 40-80's though.
