Exclamation "POLITICS" Super Thread

Effective immediately
Anything politics will be "ONLY" posted in this thread moving forward. So for those who do not wish to play in the sandbox pretty easy to not to click without being drawn in with baited titles. For those few that spend all their time on politics have at it. Based on your feedback we basically had three options, sub forum, one super user thread or no politics on AO. We are opted on option B.

We do not plan to spend allot of time in here and really have no desire to. BUT will action reported posts, rules are clear, keep it clean and respectful.

If new political threads are created outside of this thread, they will just get deleted. All current threads will be closed.

Ok wait .... are you saying all political discussion, including different discussions and topics are all mixed into one singe "super thread"?

That makes zero sense to me.

That will end up a giant mixed mess of disjointed, hard to follow, chaotic garbage - so, I guess just like most political threads end up anyway. Just much worse now.

Not very well thought out guys - sorry.

Guess I was wrong about Trump, he is really doubling down on trying to steal this election...

Filed for a 2nd recount in Georgia after they just completed a hand recount.

Probably will go like Wisconsin where it is clear they are just looking for information on what votes they should try and target with lawsuits. Just looking for technicalities to discredit votes on...

A subforum would be 1000 times better.

People can more easily choose to ignore it and come check it out when there is something important going on (elections etc).

Edit:

Could even make it more than just politics, add in news so stuff like covid etc goes there.

Not even a dozen posts and the fighting and complaining has started.

I'd call it a success.

I really like this idea for a super COVID thread so not every single discussion turns into a COVID fest. Sometimes I just want to read about someone’s truck being fixed in the general discussion without it turning COVID related.

Please don’t derail the political thread to covid talk. Some of us are sick of covid talk. Thank you.

If you take Covid, politics and the like out of the General thread, what would you have left? It will have as little action as the hunting and gun threads have now.

I spend almost no time on the political threads, Covid etc so to me which way this gets handled really doesn't matter. All in however it sounds like this is going to be a real fuster cluck. Sub forum, no moderation except for complaints makes a whole bunch more sense, or eliminate them all together. A massive hodge podge of a variety of topics will have no reasonable chance of having a coherent discussion.

Though, to be honest; if COVID never happened, COVID would have likely become an eventual AI named Ford truck.

Do people ever know what they are truly fighting about? In most of these threads people are arguing about differences of opinion. They back that opinion up with facts that support their opinion. I have my facts so I'm right. Wait, You have your facts so you're right.

Here is the skinny. We have now come to an intersection in the scientific community where facts are temporary, paid for by those commissioning the study. Some facts will stand up to future scrutiny, others will not. Science is fluid, changing. This is not new. What is new(ish) is a disrespect for others. It is OK to have different opinions. It is advantageous to have different opinions. Listening and evaluating different opinions leads to better solutions, but one has to learn to listen.

I learned how to better navigate a highway/side road intersection by listening to various opinions of forum member.

You want discussion? Go visit Douglas Murray talking with Eric Weinstein and listen to them respectfully and calmly visit on various subject matter upon which they disagree. Excellent model of a back and forth discussion.

There are two sub categories for fishing. No need to discuss fishing in general

A covid thread makes sense. Its one single topic that can be built on. Politics encompasses everything from gun legislation to side walk art. Bit of a rich to fit in one

You were one of the worst offenders on the political threads and then you suddenly had some sort of epiphany and decided they were bad. You couldn’t just go on another thread though you, like a reformed smoker had to make sure everyone else was drawn into your misery as well.

The “super Political thread” I suspect is another way for the admin to kill political discussion without actually specifically doing it.
They should have called it the super derail thread beacuase that’s about how cohesive it will likely be .
Maybe a super 30/06 thread and a super 6.5 creedmor thread ,.
Oh maybe a super someone ruined my hunt thread 😂

Even AO Can be swayed by politics. A super thread on politics is a Typical turd move to avoid the heat!

A sub forum would have been perfect. A super thread not so much.
