Default Sage 3wt

Hey was wondering if you could use a 5/6 reel on a Sage 3wt 7 foot rod? Would it make a big difference?
Thanks

You definitely could use a seven weight reel on a three weight rod. To me a reel is simply a line storage device and i prefer to fight fish by hand versus using a reel. The only minor issue is a seven weight reel may look out of proportion to your smaller 3 wt rod by if that doesn't bother you then giver!!

it is only going to change the pivot point (balance point) of the rod instead of it being in you hand it is going to move it to the heal of the rod which might make the rod feel funny to cast, and more fatiguing over the day.

When you fight bigger fish, you will definitely need to go to the reel. For smaller rods like 3wts, there is a good chance you won't need it. Reels offer a lot smoother drag and more even tension on the fish as compared to using your hand

Thanks guys, also was looking to buy a 3wt 7 foot Sage. Was looking at the Sage Approach and the Sage Response. Wondering wish would be better. I fish for trout and like fishing dries and steamers. So I like fishing both. Was wondering which rod would be the best for both Thanks A Lot guys
