Default Shake Hands with Danger

I was on YouTube and stumbled across this old gem that I couldn't help but find pretty entertaining. Some of you older guys might get a real kick out of it.

Wadda you mean you old people!

Just kidding when I started working 50 years ago there was no safety..period When films like these started coming out they were laughed off nobody took safety seriously.
One of my first jobs was clearing trees and bush for a survey crew crew, picture 16-17 year old's with chainsaws wearing cutoffs and flip flops cutting down 24" diameter trees no muffs, no ear plugs, no instruction.

Syncrude used a movie called doctor death to illustrate the dangers of H2s the whole room cheered and laughed somehow the message got lost.

When you watch the attached video how many safety violations do you see by the boss ?

I seem to remember Doctor Death or a film of that vintage having the line "get back in that trench, safety doesn't sign your paycheck!". I still use that one in jest occasionally.

It did and can still happen the same way. Maybe not so much nowadays with companies trying to do their due diligence. There was still a snicker on my part in certain spots. That's the way it was done back in the day. Not just for us old guys.

They played that video for us at SIAST during my apprenticeship in the late 90’s. They also showed it to us in high school before taking any “shop” classes.

I remember watching this film in a high school mechanics class in about 1986. I still remember the scene when the guy is greasing the bushings for the pin on the wheel loader.
