Default .204 Ruger vs Wife’s Frying Pan😁

Anyone want to take a guess? Wife got new pans so I get the old ones. At what distance will a .204 Ruger with a Federal 40 Gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip bounce off or NO longer put a hole in the pan? Take your guesses and I’ll post my results this weekend. I should be able to test it anywhere from 100-600 yards.

Closest guess gets bragging rights.😊

Sounds like a fun project !!
any ol regular frying pan...I'd say 300 yds.
..any pan with a substantially thicker base on it...less..maybe 200-225'
be real interesting to hear / SEE your results.

101 yards. Seriously, depends on the pan. But a cardboard box will cause most of the varmint pills to fragment. Never tried the Noslers, but I'll bet if the pans are good enough to wear out as a set, much past point blank range will leave little more than a lead-stained dimple.

My old 220 Swift could drive 55 gr varmint bullets through 3/8 ms plate at 100 yards, leaving large splashy holes. Frying pans should be easy...

A cast iron pan might even win at 50 yards.

I was worried that your wife was going to retaliate against you and had given you the choice of being shot with a .204 or hit with a frying pan......I was relieved that it was you shooting the pan with your rifle!

The little .204 packs a hell of a punch.
Without knowing the quality of pan and just for sake of guessing, 400 yards.

I'd ask if they are thicker cast pans or thin alloy or aluminum, but no one in their right mind throws out a good cast pan.

Im guessing 450-500 yards for thin pans.

Is the pan cast iron, copper, or stainless?

Here is a picture of the pan. Make sure you give a number. If it’s already there pick a different number. Don’t just say far ...give a number.😁

I'm going with 200 yards
I shot a cast iron one at 50 yards 3 times with my 50 Hawken I thought I missed it there were 3 holes through it no clunk no reaction.

^I think this is good, but if this is a "Price is right" thing with the closest being the winter, I'd say about 390 yards. I will add, I owned a 204R for a year and plan on getting another one day. I remember setting up an old shovel head (jammed it into the ground) @ about 100 yards, and let the granddaughter of one of the farmers I know take a few cracks at it under my supervision. It was a fairly heavy shovel head, but maybe 16ga/1/16" thick. After about 5 shots, she told me she wasn't sure she was hitting it because it didn't move. Considering I didn't jam it into the hard/dry ground very far...I thought she might be right. Upon inspection, there were 5 perfectly round holes in the steel, with almost no material deformation. They looked like they were drilled there, honestly. Bullets were 39gr. SBKs, which also blew right through a groundhog one day end-to-end. Entrance wound front left shoulder, exit rear right hip. That varmint was over 10lbs.

Lots of juice in those little bullets.

If it is the equivalent of this pan: https://www.pamperedchef.ca/shop/Coo...k+Fry+Pan/2734
I will guesstimate 470 yards.

I’m a lot of things, but in my right mind is not one of them. As soon as I can find a cast iron pan at an garage sale it will be next.
Love me some fun at irons expense.😁

599 yards. I won a Lee Enfield in a bet that said it wouldn't penetrate 1/2" plate steel at 100.

Someone already said 350 yards, so I'm going to say 375 yards.

Tikka T3 Varmint Heavy Barrel
Sightron siii 6-24x50 FFP 2moa reticle

This is the weapon that the tests will be done with.😍
Along with factory federal 40 gr nosler Ballistic Tip. I was using 32 grain Hornady vmax but these group a little tighter and kill coyotes very well also.

Ya I think it will really surprise ppl just how well a Ballistic Tip will do. Considering that little tip you gave about 1/2 in. Plate steel, I’m guessing the ppl that said 150 and less might want to change there guesses.🤔 if we get 150 yrd guesses or less from here we know they didn’t read all the comments.😂
