Default Newfoundland Moose Cull

A buddy at work told me about a moose cull happening in Nfld. Heres the link to the story.

My favorite comment was:

Parks Canada new motto: "Got to get me moose b'y", that was awesome.

Of course, the ever popular "let's re-introduce wolves" comment was mentioned. Ask the fine folks in Yellowstone how that worked for them.

All of my family lives on the Rock, not far from Terra Nova Natl. Park actually, I should call them and see what their thoughts are on this.

I grew up in Rocky Harbour right in the heart of Gros Morne national park. There are tons of moose there I remember driving to Woody Point witch is about an hours drive through the park and if it was the right time of day you could count as high as 50 Although 10 to 20 would be more common.

It's high time the NL government did something about the moose population. Accidents, serious injuries and deaths are way too high. I am surprised no one has sued the NL Government for effects of Moose-vehicle accidents. The government introduced the moose to NL, they are the ones issuing the licenses and I think that more than means they are in all ways responsible for the moose and any damage or injuries sustained in a collision.
I lived on the Rock for close to 30 years and was involved in one relatively minor moose-vehicle encounter, but it could have been worse. The moose appeared out of a roadside ditch too quickly to take avoiding action and bang we hit it. I have had several other close calls besides this. I was lucky. I know a couple people who were killed in accidents and one other who was seriously injured, leaving him disabled and his family without income.
They definitely need to be culled. As well the NL government must do more to protect motorists, eg deer fences, wide roadside clearcuts, better street lighting etc (yes the moose are even in towns and cities, so lighting is important).
