What kind of skull is this???
I found this skull in the Ft McMurray area in November. Based on the size of the skull and the area where I found it, I would say is a moose but the antlers dont look right.

I found it about 50 km north of Mc Murray near Firebag.
I thought it might be an elk but notice the spikes are pointing forward not back like an elk normaly would. Also i think elk are prety rare in that area.

I would say moose.....elk have 4 incisors (teeth) at the front of the mouth, while moose do not.

definatly a moose
It is defiantly a moose. You know because it has a fist size divot/depression on the top of the skull just behind the eyes but in front of the antler base. An elk does not have this feature.

Recon
You are probably correct on it being a moose, but it would be great if we could see a cleaned up skull with snow removed. But here is some information from Brad Stelfox's book Hoofed Mammals of Alberta.
1. Moose have two holes at the front of the eye orbit (open circular area) and an "exceptionally long snout bone, and as mentioned by someone, they have a depression in top of skull between eye orbits.
2. male caribou ..top of orbit often elevated above frontal bone (= area between orbits) and they have an upper canine (which is way in front of regular teeth in upper jaw.
3. elk males have a short snout. Top of orbit is generally lower than frontal bone (= area between orbits). They also have 2 holes at the leading front edge of the orbit, and upper canine teeth located way in front of regular teeth in upper jaw.
Hope this helps.
