Today james_m and I went out hunting for coyotes. We called for about an hour and nothing came out. So we went to another place where we have seen coyotes before and where I harvested one earlier in the year. I pushed the bush while james waited. While in the bush I found a den with fresh blood going into it and fresh tracks, but no dogs. I then went about 5 feet further when I seen 2 moose jump up and started to run away from me. All I seen was the back side and nothing else. Once I got out James told me that he seen three bull moose. They came out from biggest to smallest. James said that the first one would have been about 40" second was about 30" and the third had dropped his left side already so it was hard to even guess what it was. So either the third lost it in a fight or there starting to shed early. Sorry I didn't get any pictures but I just wanted to share this information because they may be starting to shed early for those that want to go shed hunting. Well needless to say I know where I'm going to go.
I found this shed yesterday in a heavily wooded pine area. Nice dark color. Just the base was sticking out of the snow. It looked like it dropped in the last day or so. They should be dropping them mad starting soon.
