Looks awesome! I had built one for a few years in a row, but being a bit further south than you (Lethbridge area) our winters have proved too mild so I haven't bothered... Now I'm regretting it a bit after this latest cold snap. I could have built a foot of ice in a week to sustain us through the warmer days... Hindsight...

Nice . i used to make rinks for the kids when they were younger . the biggest mistake i made was to put red and blue lines . as the days got longer the lines absorbed more heat from the sun and would melt . 25 years later the kids still talk of the escapades they had skating on the home ice with their friends .

That part of my yard doesn't see to much sun this time of year so it holds up pretty well in the warmer conditions. I do the same and build up more ice than I need but its nice when it starts to melt. This is the 5th year I've built one going from a small 12x12 sheet of ice to 50x22 that I have now. Sure keeps the neighborhood kids busy and me to for that matter to

Id post a pic of ours but I'm not too computer savvy. The kids will be enjoying it again now that its warmed up again. Great rinks by the way guys. Its a bit of work but worth it when the kids enjoy it so much.

Thanks for the flashback to when I was a kid. Dad had a rink every year for us as we grew up. Memories

Great pics. I had one also when both my boys were younger but had your typical backyard in Calgary and only had about 30 by 16. Worked great.
My grade in yard had 6" ice in one end and 20" in the other. Took the hose in the house to thaw for flooding. ( wife loved that!!!) Great memories and even stuck some beers in the snow bank!!!!
Once they were in minor hockey the little rink was done.
