Default Coyote theif

Here is a new low for human beings
Was checking snares today one of my snares was closed
I started looking around noticed small tree I tied support
Wire to was chewed off and a freshly skinned coyote carcass near my sight
Obviously someone seen a coyote in my snare
And decided to help himself.
I guess the only good thing is I didn't catch this person

Had someone take an animal from me before. 3/32 Cable was cut with either pliers or wire cutter.

That sucks. It's a matter of time for me. My line is easy access especially when frozen. Lots of people traveling all over. Gonna lose one eventually. It will not be a happy day . Wish people had respect. If I had saw a coyote dead in your snare I would have either left it or possibly put the dog up on a tree branch at the snare site to keep mice away. Hopefully it don't happen again.

My issue that has happened 2 years in a row is I have had the lowlife shotgun deer hunters that have felt it necessary to blow a couple of mine up for fun

I have lost numerous coyotes to thieves who have helped themselves. Sledders have been my biggest problem. I myself could have made some good coin over the years had I chosen to be dishonest. I enjoy sleeping well at night.

About 15 years ago I was snaring coyotes and had someone enter a closed gate and steal 5 coyotes out of my truck. I would park my truck inside the field, close the gate, unload my quad and go for my 1-1.5 hour run. That day was the last time I had coyote disappear on my. From that day forward if I didn't have a locked canopy, I parked on top of their feet so they could not runaway.

That's friggin insane! Where the heck does this stuff happen? Is it on crown land or private property? I feel pretty fortunate that I don't have those issues around here......at least, not yet. It only takes one guy though I guess.

Thieves are everywhere I suppose. I had two stolen last year and they took the rams too so that was an extra expense. Honestly,it's probably for the best that I didn't catch him doing it.

The trapper on the Panther was in last week reporting two stolen wolves from snares close to the Dogrib.

My partner and I had a dead snared coyote shot with a large caliber rifle a few days ago....someone trying to send a message? Or just a village idiot?

Be vigilant...

last year I had five foothold coyotes shot with high power deer guns one was just about in two pieces. This year I had one dog took from the trap they tryed to take the trap too but my disposibal held in the ground. As for my mountain line I have had dozens of martin traps taken an some I know there was martin in them. God help the thief if I ever catch them.

Same here , Tho I 'm like coyote man and have had dogs taken by sledders. I' m always afraid when I have coyotes in the back of my truck and leave it to go call a set or 2. When there is snow I will sometimes toss them out , cover up with snow and park truck over top ,so far so good . It's not that I don't trust people it's just that I don't trust people ..

Default Thieves

Stealing a coyote and skinning it right there? Wow, that's almost eerie, I wonder if the guy tight you were trappingg on his land or something and trying to send a message? Strange

Pretty sure I ve come across more than a few of your snared dogs, Marty, as we travel a lot of the same trails. You ll have to pay me back for being honest by leaving a few for me to call as well as some breeding stock for next year.

Here's the other side of the coin, got permisson on a section of land that the owners haven't let anyone hunt for the last 10 years. Owner comes out and shows us the boundries on a Sunday. We go back out on Monday to find a moose carcass dumped in a corner. We also find some snares, owner tells us to remove them. We go back out on Saturday morning to set up for a goose shoot, now we see a bunch of purple ribbons around the moose carcase. Find about 20 snares set up,1 dead yote and 1 snared around the hind quarter, very ****ed and kicking. Let the owner know, he contacted F/W know and they came out. F/W got what they wanted and told us not much of a chance of catching anyone. So everyone left and we went back to our blind and try our luck with the geese. Around 5PM see a truck drive on the field, let the owner know. Guy comes and drives up to us, after he checks his snares. Asks us if we know what happen to his snares. Watched his mouth drop when I told him F/W has them. he says he has permission to be there, we have land owner on speaker phone and tells him he has no permission to be there. he tells us he is going back to our trucks and wait for the owner to show up. Well gets near our trucks and books it out across the field, only to be stopped at the gate by the owner. Where it goes from here is yet to be seen

Not to many sides of a story to chose from when trappers are having coyotes stole. Especially if they were skinned right there!
If trapping without permission it's the same as poaching. Not something that happens a lot, as it's usually pretty obvious who is snaring/ trapping.
I had snare an coyote stole on me last yr. for some it's the only way they will ever get a coyote. Hope they at least come up with a good bs story on how they got it

Default lost coyote

Lost a snare and coyote today and might have left the guys trail cam as no one else has permission on the property. Almost beginning to wonder if I should join the other group. My problem is being able to sleep well at nights, though.

I would think the guys stealing the animal likely are going to sell it in the round but those shooting live coyotes in snares blowing them apart are likely sending a message. Not everybody likes trapping and snaring.

Not sending a message. Actually met the guy that did it after. He appologized. Didn't realise they were in snares he said.... It was a younger guy and I think he just wanted to test out his gun on a coyote.

How about RG? I'm wondering if you buy the odd bridge?
