Default Savage 116 Alaskan Brush Hunter - Opinions?

Anybody have one of these?

http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=71&&ID=36741

I dig the iron sites and oversized bolt handle. While Savages aren't exactly known to be exquisite works of art, I have owned a couple and they definately get it done!

Alot of guys might take issue with large calibre short barrels for unpleasant muzzleblast etc. but I'm not overly bothered by that.

At an affordable $639 I'd still have a few bucks for dies, brass, etc.

Thoughts?

Thumbs up Savage

Very few savages are seen here in Alaska

Suggest the ruger Alaskan in 375 ruger very popular here.

375hh performance out of a 20" barrel

The shorten 338 win barrel check the vel u r proably at 338/06 level in performance........waste.

Nice gun.. but wouldnt buy it unless it was in a bigger cartridge like a .458wm, or 458 Lott.

I own the Savage Alaskan Brush Hunter in 338 win. It sends Hornady 225 grain Interbonds downrange at 2800 fps according to my chronograph - that's only 40 fps shy of the muzzle velocity on the ammo box. Accuracy, feeding and extracting are all superb.
