Did any one else give coyotes away? Second year in a row that the buy backs for the May sale were given away on the next sale.

What was your results? never seen a post on this.

Was happy with the fisher and Marten results, so a small cheque to buy more supplies.

I missed the last receiving date for the auction so I only had one beaver in. A Large *I sold for $10 and in May I had a Large SDG that sold for $9.50.
In June 2016 I had a Large *SEL sell for $7 and in April 2016 I had a Large DG1 sell for $8.

Next year's auction dates are similar with the exception of a later February sale:
February 26 – March 2, 2018 (On Show February 21, 2018)
May 13 – 19, 2018 (On Show May 8, 2018)
July 6 – 10, 2018 (On Show July 1, 2018)

From now on I'll be storing my Spring beaver and muskrats until the depot starts receiving them again in October. I've heard that the depot in Wetaskiwin might be an option to store or ship late season fur for auctions next season but I haven't checked yet.

I snared coyotes right to the last day of February and I got all of my coyotes put up before the last receiving date for the May auction. I didn't pay attention to what coyotes were selling for but I won't be sending any fur into the July auction anyway.

I still had marten left over unsold after May and July sale. Anyone else experience same problem, first year this has happened.

Default fur prices

Sorry to read to read about everyones disappointing "fur returns".
Muskrat not even $2.oo ?

I've been increasingly discouraged over the years regarding fur prices.
Every season and every fur sale is from one extreme to another.

Being a farmland trapper and targeting just coyotes my personal expenses and "time" to gather and prepare the fur seldom outweigh the financial return. Something that started as a hobby has somehow turned into a winter job...probably cause I like doing it.
I've invested too much time and money into the equipment and tools.
Intend to cut-back my territory area - stay close to home and reduce my trapping season to just a month or two.

I can't imagine chasing beaver and muskrat at the give away fur prices today.
Price of trucks, snowmachines, argos, steel traps...whooooah
I predict the fur industry will die a slow death.

Alberta you are probably right, we give away to much of our fur at terrible prices. I have a good reference book on a couple BC trappers who kept good records in the 1940's they were getting same prices as we get today in 2017 dollar. We should be getting 10 times their prices to reflect inflation, the high cost of equipment/fuel etc. We must just love the time on the trapline, we are definitly not in it for the money.

Default trapping

Todays most successful trappers are the huttterite boys.
They have access to thousands of acres of their own land...use of colony trucks and fuel...not have to worry about mortgage, rent or daily bills.

I do envy the free trucks and free fuel, maybe a few other perks. Ya... Hutterite jerky, Hutterite bread. Maybe you are right
