Default Scope threads

Hi, my Remington 270 mounting threads for the rings wore out. Was wondering if it would be advisable to tap new threads myself and if so how hard would it be?

If you have succeeded in stripping the receiver holes for the bases, you may be able to go to a larger size, but you need to be careful to leave enough metal to cut the new threads. I would not try this without a drill press.

May I suggest that receiver threads do not wear out . They were either over torqued or possibly cross threaded . I would recommend haveing the holes re-drilled by a professional and the screws torqued properly. If you go to a larger screw size ( usually 8-40) the counter bore on the base or the screw heads need to be turned as they will not fit in the 6-48 counter bore of the base
