There are lots of decent gun smiths in alberta it all depends what kind of work you need done eg. stock work, new barrel, repair, custom build... it’s hard to recommend someone without knowing what kind of work you need done, sorry I wasn’t much help

In your area, I would also recommend Bob Galloway @ Custom Gunworx. 403 845 8712. He is near Rocky but worth the short drive.

Talk to Steve @ EMP Precision, or Ron Hendrickson in the west end of Edmonton.

Some decent ones listed and one not so much. These guys have been in the business for a long time and do great work (in no particular order) rod Hendrickson and Rps international right in spruce grove. Botherwise have Facebook pages and possibly websites.

Call and talk to all the ones listed and ask for a quote. I have KS Arms building me a barrel and re-barrelling a Sako for me at this time. Their price and turn around time are very reasonable, and I know their quality is on par with any other or better.

Harley/Andy are awesome guys, and do good work. I would recommend them. RPS is also good to deal with, and puts out nice stuff.

Had one of my friends order a 280ai from him
Cost over $3000
He used a used Remington 700 magnum action
Sleeved a regular bolt to fit.
It shoots granted. But has zero resale value. He was ****ed

He built me a 280ai
I dropped off the donor that was a 280 mountain rifle
He provided and bedded a B&C stock
New barrel
Trigger job
Accrized the action(included a JB welded on sleve on rear of bolt to tighten up clearence) that looked like hell, not sure if thats a normal gun smith trick. But had I known I would have paid extra to get a PTG bolt made.
Also this gun will only shoot one load accurate
Tried 12 different brands and bullet weights
6 different powders
Over 300 rounds to find something that would shoot.
Cost me over $2500
There is more but thats where i will stop.
PM me if you want more details
You be the judge.....

Wow, looks like it must be that tar and feather your gunsmith time on AO. I have had the exact opposite experience with Bob's work. Bob has built 3 hunting rifles and 4 target rifles for me and everyone of them are absolute lasers. I was at the Alberta Fclass championships this last season and one of his builds took first place in Fopen and another build took 2nd in ftr. Bob is more often than not in the top three at these shoots (as well as shooting for the Canadian fclass team) and he shoots one of those terrible sleeved bolts you speak so poorly of. I also had a Remington action with a sleeved bolt and it shot every bit as good as any of my custom actions. Sleeving an existing bolt saves money over a ptg bolt especially at times when the dollar is poor. I am willing to bet that your issues are just that...your issues. A gunsmith can only do so much, if you have poor loading and shooting skills then that is on you.

You need to read what he wrote and not where your emotions went with what he wrote. It wasnt the sleeved bolt but how it was done. Your shot at his reloading skills is a poor move which dictates a shot at your ability to summarize what you know nothing about. The man had a bad experience with someone you had a good experience with,,,grow up
