Default Sign, Sign, Everywhere A Sign

Hello,

After being away for several years, I recently came back to the Edmonton area and can not believe all the changes! I have seen driving to old hunting places that I use to hunt for whitetail, UNBELIEVABLE!

I remember not too long ago when I to use to live here that I was hunting around Edmonton for whitetail and the hunting was pretty good, now there are houses and NO HUNTING signs everywhere.

I was wondering if someone here can direct me to some crown land outside of Edmonton (within 90 minutes) where I can stretch my legs and maybe see a few deer without seeing a NO HUNTING sign?

I am not asking for anyone's honey hole, just a place where i can go and get some fresh air and maybe get some venison for the freezer?

A general zone that does not require a draw would be a great help.

Thanks and good luck to everyone.

Athabasca, Cynthia, edson. Few places with crown land, may be a few minutes longer than your 90 mins though

Hi Talking moose,

I only use my cell phone for texting. I decided that I did want to be in touch with the world 24/7 a long time ago!

I will look to see if I can download it to my computer, thanks!

Your missing a lot by not using your cell phone for various apps that were suggested to you in this thread. None of them require you to be in contact with the world

You are right, I will looking into upgrading my cell to able to upload apps, calling Virgin today hehe.

I did call DU they sent me to the link below, most of their locations you can't hunt and they are relatively small properties. I will be calling F&W tomorrow to see when I can buy maps of crown land around here. I use to buy them at Maptown but to my surprise they are closed now.

Really? Not on the DU site!

Still have to call F&W to get crown land maps. Seems to me that if you step in the wrong direction these days you'll get arrested and charged for Trespassing and Poaching and pay lots in fines with the slightest mistake. The joy of hunting is gone.

I am really happy I got tons of hunting in when I did. This whole sign, sign, sign everywhere thing is wrong on so many levels IMO.

Surprised nobody but me has something to say on this subject.

All I will say is that I am moving to BC next spring, way too many "No Hunting" signs in Alberta for me!

I recently bought 15 no hunting signs for our farm land, can't blame people for posting land if they don't want unwanted/uninvited visitors.....

Exactly! He pays the taxes, he maintains the property, if he allows complete strangers to hunt his property great, if not, that is his business.

A curious statement..you'll move to BC because of this when, as Talking Moose alluded to, lots of crown to the north and west? Maybe you should get the maps first.

I just found today that 2 of my signs were shot, 1 gate lock was shot and my nice aluminum sign that was screwed to a fence post stolen. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin it for everyone I guess.

Shutting out all hunters won't stop the vandalism described, but I do understand why some landowners have shut down all hunting on their property. I would be very frustrated if it was my property being vandalized. Signs , or no signs, I stay off of any property that I don't have permission for.

Im going out to install a bunch of these signs this weekend on one of my favorite grouse properties, it sucks but its better than becoming enemies with the landowner. Its a delicate balancing act. Many land owners need hunters to control the animal populations but hunters need to landowners for access. Unfortunately there are way to many people out there that cant respect the land or the landowners. I cant call them hunters because a true hunter respects the land and the landowners. Too bad so many people out there cant understand this and end up ruining it for everyone, but in the end hunting is a privilege, not a right.

Idiots like that give ever hunter a bad name, which is why I am seeing all of the signs everywhere I go hunting that used to be sign free when I left.

What a Turd!
