Screwed
Yes.
Never tried to fight with them on an appeal level. Never got that far.
I will figure out a way to even it out on my own.
Make them jump through the hoops to screw you. I doubt you can win but have some fun with the fight.
My employer was more reasonable than WCB.

Yep
appealed once and was shut down.
My many docs found I had 2 compressed discs pinching my sciatic nerve etc.
The wcb doc that just reviewed my file, scans etc said it was a sprain and that is what they went on
Biggest bunch of scammers on earth

WCB has been significantly better since the government review. If you have a strong clinician advocate then run your appeal. There are three levels of appeal and there is no cost except your time.

Took my brother's case all the way to the appeal board and won.
He got a hernia from flipping/moving/working with semi-trailer duals.
They got some doctor, without examining him or even looking at his medical records to make a claim that his injury was probably from sports or personal activities versus work. The doctors statements were the exact opposite of 100% of the medical information that anybody can google. Pure quack and bought and paid for by WCB.

I owned Corporation and I payed WCB a percentage of my pay to my workers. That stopped in January of a particular year. It was June of that year when I owed them and they said I owed X no of dollars because they would have made the money until then even though they had not worked. I said you will NEVER see me again. And they have not.

You only have a certain timeline to appeal. I tried and was shut down as it was to far gone (like 3 years or something and you only have 1 to appeal)

I used to be contracted out to do investigations on behalf of WCB, the shear amount of false claims they deal with is astonishing. One of the higher ups is convinced every file that goes across her desk is just another person trying to scam them so they are dismissed quickly with little thought or investigation. The doctors they have on staff do not practice medicine, they are as the WCB staff refers to as textbook doctors. If they can find a probable cause in a book to say your injury is healed, exaggerated or caused by something other than work then your file is finished. Even the review process is designed to make you get so frustrated that you just quite following up then they dismiss your case. If you miss an appointment with their specialist your file is flagged then the claim is likely denied.
I found out through an insider that many of the cases I worked were dismissed even though we found no signs of foul play and the extent of the injuries were true. Its heartbreaking to watch a single father of 2 children struggle to make ends meat because of an injury and not getting the help he really needs. Its basically government sanctioned theft.

There is WCB claim advocate to help a person listed in the white pages if you have a phone book.
Also just saw that the gov't have just opened this office and service to people. Might be helpful. Maybe not.

Dealt with both Alberta WCB and Sask WCB over the same recurring injury.
Long story short Sask WCB is a real organization with a purpose...Alberta WCB is as immoral and useless as you claim.

How long ago?
Say what you will about the NDP but the 2017 WCB review (15 years since the last one), the employment standards code review, the labour relations code review and bill 30 have made a significant difference in worker protections.

My experience was that the AB side was incompetent as well as the fore mentioned experiences of others.

I remember when these clown came to one of my gift shops(that was more than 15 years ago) and demanded that I have to insure my workers. I asked -“insure from what? - lifting a can of coke from the fridge?”They gave me a hole shpil about how I can get in trouble if the worker get injured Yada Yada Yada.. I remember that I told them that if my worker gets injured -I will solve the problem the old Russian way - bullet to the head and put her out of misery.
You should’ve seen their faces! But they never came back I had never paid them a dime!

Check out the MPO (Medical Panel Office), it was established to help better resolve WCB appeal claims that have been denied/etc.
Only problem is you cannot get them involved directly yourself, either WCB, the Appeals Commission, or a worker for the Appeals Commission can get the involved if things come to a stalemate.
