Default 45-70 ??? Am I missing something ?

Where have all the 45-70's gone ? Can't find one new , can't find one used . Did I miss something ? Or better yet can someone point me in the right direction?

With Marlin currently not producing and the general shortage in firearms since COVID it is not surprising you are having issues finding one.

Then when a used one pops up for sale the sellers are asking a premium for it. Seen lots of Dark series and SBL for 1500 to 1700 and they dont last long.

Prophet River had some Winchesters in 45-70 advertised in the Access Newspaper. HAve had a couple over the years, they are great guns but on the heavy side. Henry makes a 45-70 lever but have not seen one for sale for a while. There are quite a few used 45-70 on CGN most weeks but like all used guns they go very fast. Any gun I have posted in the past 12 months rarely lasted more than a day, some less than an hour. Weber and Markin had a bolt action 45-70 for sale last week.

Check out some of these prices. Wonder if there are people actually stupid enough to pay these prices.

Makes me wish I hadn't gotten rid of a few. I've only got 1 45-70 now, a Marlin 1895 classic that is likely going to be buried with me.

With the prices now that might lead to some grave robbers!

I am beginning to think the reason the guns I sold recently went so fast is I massively under priced them. Going to have to try Covid pricing and see how long they take to move.

Well I did see some SBL and Dark series for 1700- 1800 on CGN, I remember looking at them and thinking they were crazy for asking that but they arent there now...

Meh, just sold a Henry 45/70. 50 bucks less than I paid. Don’t miss it. Teplaced it with a 1894 30/30. I’ll use that more around the farm, keep my 336 30/30 as my hunting rifle.
That being said, the 45/70 sold in minutes...
Good luck

Like it or not, .45 /70 is the caliber of the moment, demand reflects that.

I've got a mint SBL that I'd consider selling if the price is right.

The thing is a laser with the peep sights.

Send me a PM.

It seems like anything 45/70 is either high priced (like ammo) or non-existent or sold already: Dies, bullet molds, cases, bullets, tapered crimpers, powder compressors, and anything else related to reloading 45/70 in smokeless or black powder.

Default Levers

All lever actions are in high demand right now, and priced to reflect that demand.

Who would have thought a basic Winchester M 94 made 40 years ago would have been selling for over 800.00 now ? Rossi 92 in pistol calibers around a grand !

With a lot of semiautomatic rifles now in the prohib category in Canada, you can bet guys will be replacing these with pistol caliber lever actions for three gun matches, plinking, etc.

All that said, the .45-70 is a great caliber.
