thanks for all the info - there is a lot to digest.

I'll be honest here, I had no idea the prices for some hunts even in my own province. My "Champagne taste on a beer budget" doesn't seem to get me much, but I will keep my eyes open. I am going to look into some Drop Camp options or maybe some last minute cancelations trips.

The part of hunting I love most is just setting up camp with a few buddies, taking my rifle/bow for a walk and talking about our day at the campfire. Maybe the drop camp would be perfect for that. I think I am more into the experience and scenery, getting an animal is a bonus.

Thanks for the PM's I'm going to sort through it all.

Default Guided trips

My thoughts with the borders still closed I think there will be some good deals for Canadian residents to get a tag that was only available to alien non-residents. I hope that Canadian residents will be able to take advantage of some of these opportunities or the outfitters will have another season with limited income. Just my two cents

Dustin Roe just had a post on instagram a couple days ago saying he was preparing for another covid year of only Canadian residents and was going to have some deals. Might be some great opportunities again this year.

Thanks

I think the only guided trip I'd pay for is Yukon, Alaska, NWT or Africa. I can't believe what they're charging for guided black bear hunts here in Alberta. Ridiculous

Hauling bait and actually putting in the time and effort to be successful is expensive. When compared to the work required to do it yourself and the money involved a guided baited hunt is pretty cheap !

Agree with Alaska. It’s about the only one i would consider. Grand slam would be awesome as well

If you want to go on an exotic getaway, you could go to Hawaii the big island and hunt Vancouver bulls, mouflon sheep and goats for your budget and the mrs can stay at the resort and the outfitter picks you up each morning and you can bring your critters home with you because they are coming from the U.S. and CFIA has stipulations to meet and none of them are CITES so it is a breeze.

If anyone is looking for a monster black bear spot and stalk for coastal bears, shoot me a message. Buddy I goat hunt with is looking to book a couple canadians for the stewart, BC country. You wont be hunting the salt water, but will be just inside along the coastal mountains. Monster bears, overall bigger than what we see here in Alberta and sask, not to mention its an unreal area. Pull crab pots for fresh crab, then go spot and stalk a big blackie, couldnt get any better for the spring. I believe he is $3500 canadian each if you and a buddy book.

I’m seeing most go for under $3000 now, some of the youth hunts are less.

I spent that last year hauling bait and never did have a big enough bear to shoot show up. I could have went on a trip, with accommodations, food and fishing included for the same price.
Still might not have found a bear big enough, but that’s awfully cheap for a week long adventure.

I know I sure wouldn’t be offering any hunt that cheap lol

That one does seem to be pretty out of wack compared to he Grizzly and Goat hunts. Not everything is a great deal, but the Black Bear and Grizzly bear hunts sure are.

No two ways about it, Eastern Europe, Asia, South America, New Zealand, Australia and Africa, even mainland Europe are WAY cheaper to hunt than Canada or the States. If a guy doesn't mind the 30 hours flight time each way you can go on some great adventures for pretty reasonable money. Hope you have another great trip.

Grizzly hunt for 18k isn’t a screaming great deal
But it’s your last chance to shoot one in Canada before they shut it down there too
Your success rate on a spring grizzly hunt in the yukon would be very high

I seen Burnt lake outfitters was offering up a Canadian bear hunt for like 2100 Canadian to residents for 1 bear. i paid 4k for 2 bear - 3 years ago there. good deal for a baited 6 day hunt??

I don’t know them, but the price is right.

Personally I’d look at Saskatchewan or Manitoba myself. Get a hunting/fishing trip out of the deal for one low price.

That or go to B.C. and slam a big bear behind hounds, but that’s not going to happen for $2100

Based on the above, a drop camp is for you

Go with your friends, run it the way you want to, and take it as it comes

I took advantage of one of these deals last fall. Canadians will never get a better deal to hunt sheep then right now.
