What did you tie today?

Again, like my post said a little while back, I'm still a beginner at this. But, seeing as though it's cold out, I thought there might be some tying going on.

I learned a new fly. Really simple. It will probably be better with a heavier wire but this is what I have on hand so I used it.

Size 14 nymph, 0.2mm wire, black thread, Peacock herl, tungsten bead.

Tied some Pale Morning Dunns in #16and some BWO's in #20's

Lornce, those are pretty tiny. The smallest I've tried so far is a 16. I didnt think my eyesight was all that bad until I tried them, lol.

I did a few more this morning. A few more of the brassiere with a tail just to have a half dozen with and without. The red ones just to try something different and easy. And even at that, I snapped the thread right when I was about to tie off. Thats why there's two visible silver ribs on the one and three on the other.
The sparkle scud, I did a few with a brass colored tungsten bead, but I have tied enough flies this week alone (I only got those beads last weekend) that I ran out already. So I tied these 5 with the copper colored tungsten. It matches the copper rib, maybe it'll work better in some areas, maybe not.

I fish a lot of #20s especially during the wonderful midsummer and fall Trico hatches. Lots of really big trout love em.

More like a 2 day arts and craft project than tying but the Jennings ultimate boatman is aptly titled for those amazing fall boatman flight days

They are preformed foam beetle bodies 1/2" long. The original bodies Steve used are not available any longer but you can find the small beetle bodies around. Here is a video of Steve tying his pattern:

Chronnies, trying to blend thread colors, a little harder than I thought. Starting to look good, just need to do a few dozen to get it down.

wow some nice flys! I'm gonna have to get my stuff dug out and set up again, havent been on the water since I started working for self 2009. Keep up the posts there are some nice ideas here.

To be honest, Goldscud, I have not fished with them yet. I have a trip planned in May. I am meeting my brother at one of our favourite small lakes near Cranbrook BC. I was told Boobies are all the rage on the sill water out there. I have always leaned towards natural colours(greens, browns and black) for my tying but they are supposed to be an attractor pattern and fact is they are fun to tye. I will definitely report back after the trip and let you know how they worked.

If the water is clear they offer a ton of visual excitement.Even if 1 out of 10 bite it.They truly are a fun fly.

The lake we are going to, like most of the lakes around there is nice and clear. Also it's a full moon that week, if we get a nice clear night with bright moon light we will try some night fishing. See if the big boys are out more at night.
I have also tied up some balanced leeches to try too. Also need to do up some chronomids.

A lot of pictures I found for this style are just below flush with the bead, tapering down to a single thread wrap on the back side. That's pretty much what this is. It is a little heavier than what I wanted for sure, but not to bad. The red ones I've tied like this have caught fish, I'm hoping these will too. I will try some skinny ones once I get some finer thread.

Not sure the actual name but the only fish I caught today was on a commercial tie fly similar to this. Biggest difference is the black and red dubbing and the red thorax.

This is my first fly using Marabou and I found it very easy to deal with, and no dye sins on my fingers. Yet. I'm going to try and make it out tomorrow again, and if I have time, stop and get some smaller hooks. This is a size 12.

I love Drake time, this is a nice simple pattern with just Deer hair, a bit of dubbing and some Hackle. I like it as it floats like a cork in the riffles.
