Default Registering a US boat with missing title

I'm wondering if someone can help me out with this situation.

My Grandpa bought a 2004 Glastron boat off one of his friends three years ago. My Grandpa's friend was a snowbird and always brought back a boat or quad back from the states. The Glastron boat that my Grandpa bought is still registered in the states. His friend gave him the boat title and all the border documents when he boght the boat. My Grandpa never registered the boat since it wasn't leaving his lake lot. Sadly, my Grandpa passed away over the winter and my Grandma can't find the documents for the boat. The family is cleaning up the yard and starting to sell big ticket items. How can we register the boat in Canada without the title and border documents? All fees we paid at the border when the boat was brought to Canada. Thank you!

My Dad brought back a boat from AZ he used the numbers already on the boat to register, if it doesn't have hull numbers I think you can register then get numbers made check with Canada customs

Registering the boat in my mind is possibly a non issue. Did it have a trailer and was the trailer ever registered in Canada. The trailer is the bigger problem. In fact when one brings a boat into Canada other than paying gst the trailer is what they zero in on.

I went through this a while ago. As mentioned, it is not the boat that will likely be the problem - but the trailer might. Your local registry office is the place to start. My prospect boat had never been registered in AB. It was going to cost $400 for a tandem boat trailer or $200 for a single axle to get an AB VIN number. You pay the money, a gov’t person comes out to check it out and rivets on a VIN number. Then you get to register it.

If the trailer has a serial number on it, just go in and register it as a new trailer. Will solve a lot of issues. As far as the boat, same deal, go on line for the Federal Boat Registration, fill out form, including the boats SN, you will get the numbers to put on the side of the boat and registration shows up in the mail.
