Default Crazy Northern Lights Tonight

Sitting around the Campfire tonight.
You can almost see a rearing horse in one of these.

I’m in the NE corner of BC, but I’ve seen pics from all over BC and Alberta from that night.

Yeah, it’s been two or three days now that the sky lights up like crazy. I have spent a couple of hours watching the day before yesterday. You know it’s bright when your phone can “see” it, lol.

I've seen them in the Yukon but we don't get them here in NB. I've only seen them here once in 36yrs.

Most south I have seen them was in southern Ontario a couple of times. Must have been quite magnetic storms though. It was nothing like they are here, in northern Alberta, of course. But more colourful, if I recall correctly. The first time I saw them there, it took me a minute to realize what I was looking at.

Maybe more today. It’s still light out, but one can already see some of it.

As we approach another Solar maximum period, solar activity will start ramping up, and auroras should increase in frequency, peaking in 2024/2025.

I have got an email from aurora watch almost every night this week. But I’ve been asleep already so haven’t driven out of the city to see them.

Big solar event making for shows all over the northern hemisphere.

Going to poke out later tonight. People have seen it as far south as okotoks.

Was indeed insane! Have seen them that “strong” in a while. Even the lame phone pics were brighter than night lights!

And man, that thing can move! Lol.

Nice pictures!
I drove the Icefields Parkway at 3am today and it was quite the show, especially around the Columbia Icefield area.
