Default I Did This Thing..........

I got in contact with Mr. Bob Jury of Jury Custom Barrels out of Red Deer, Thursday evening, and ordered a .284”, 1 in 9T, #3 Contour(Kreiger contour) finished at 23-1/2”.

Then on Friday I purchased a Bell and Carlson BDL style stock in olive with black web lines from Prophet River in Lloyd.

Then today I dropped off my LH REM 700 Varmint SPS in .243 Win with Mr. Bob Galloway of Custom Gunworx out of Rocky Mtn House(east of). He is going to fit the Jury barrel after he chambers it for 7mm-08 REM. And will finish the complete barrelled action a nice flat black with Cerakote.

I just love new builds..........

Dick that rifle should be a real humdinger of a hunter when it's finished!

That will be a beauty Dick.
Make sure you post some pics for the rest of us lefties to drool over.

I would love a lefty 7-08.
I picked up a LH 7mm two days ago from Clay. Its just a touch faster, CA Mesa chambered in 28 Nosler.
One day ill grow up and leave the magnum scene behind I hope.

I do love a 7mm08, especially done up like that. What are you thinking of shooting with that twist, 140s?

I plan on shooting what shoots best in it, nothing more to it.
After discussing twist rates with Mr. Jury I said any bullet weight up to 168gr. So he recommended a 1 in 9 rate of twist.
I’ve got lots of 7mm bullets on hand all the way from 120’s up to 162’s, so it’s just a case of plug and play till something stands out.

Makes sense to me. I have a 1 in 9 in my rifle, and 140s were the sweet spot, shot pretty much anything nicely (partitions, ballistic tips, TSX). Tried 150 gr Speers and couldn't group under 1 1/2''. 120 were so so as well, so 140s are the ticket.

It’s a Jury barrel put together by a reputable gunsmith with the skill set to make it shoot. I bet it shoots pretty much everything from 120-168 with almost boring ease.
Gonna be one heck of a hunting rig!
It goes without saying, we look forward to the follow up posts with pics and range results!
Enjoy

In this time of Covid, that qualifies as mental health therapy. Just in case you have to justify it to the Boss.

Never have and never will have to behave in such a manner with Mrs. D.

To be honest she was part of the reason this build is happening, she spurred me into it after I bagged some serious OT the last few weeks, she also helped me nail down which chambering to get the build in.

But there’s also the aspect that our in province builders of things like barrels and builders of guns are hurting due to the fact lots of folks aren’t flush with cash these days, it’s very much on my mind how they are going to survive these tough times.

At least I can say I’m spreading my windfall around some.

Sounds like a great build and good on you for keeping the tradesman occupied. Look forward to seeing the pictures of the rifle and the test targets.

I currently have the factory trigger in that rifle it’s one of the first generation Mark X models, that actually was adjustable, so at this point I can’t justify a change, but if the need comes to make a change it’ll be a TriggerTech for sure.

Right on Dick. Sounds like a really cool build. I have the exact same stock on my 25-06. I like them a lot.

What does Bob charge for cerakote?

He did one for me a couple years ago. Fantastic job.
Think it was $250? But I could be wrong on that. Best just to call him

X mark I believe, the factory trigger that came with the SPS Varmint, but this one actually adjusts( not the norm)
I’ll keep it for now, triggers are bit like undergarments, not so hard to change, and defiantly not all are the same.

I have had some X Marks that adjusted quite well and others you'd want to pitch in the trash bag. You're finger knows what's good.

The Trigger that came on the 40X , was a tuned version of the old trigger, and it was far superior to the X Mark trigger. My 40X trigger broke at 29oz, and was within an ounce every time.

I'd send that bloody thing right back where it came from. They are playing a joke on you. They sent you a backward stock.

You're just dislexic. You only need to be in your right mind to be left handed. There is a good reason most geniuses are left handed.

I think the photo might just be mirrored... all of my stocks have the cheek rest on the other side.
