In PLD we would get a bigger stronger player, and save over a million a year in cap. Over Mony.

Just looked it up. One year left is not appealing and next year he has a modified ntc where he picks only 5 teams he can be traded to. We need a core change

For sure. Even though I would like to have Lainie we cannot afford his next contract. I would much rather have PLD.

That being said, it's a heck of an accomplishment for a player picked 166th overall to put up 17 goals in a shortened season. Some first overall picks haven't exceeded that.

Think they said these were the lines at camp today:

Tkachuk-Lindhold-Simon
Gaudreau-Monahan-Leivo
Mangiapane-Backlund-Ryan
Lucic-Bennett-Dube

They have a lot of talent on paper. If they print it, they might actually make some noise.

It's true, three 15 or 15+ scores on the 3rd line, that likely doesn't happen often. Big if unfortunately.

Just poking fun. Mangie actual punches above his weight class and I like his play. Solid 3rd liner with the potential to bump a second liner who is not performing.

Which brings me to Leivo. How does that guy jump to second line on Calgary ahead of Backlund and Dube?

Also if Lucic, Bennett, and Dube perform like they did in the playoffs, they will be the best 4th line in the league.

Who is this Simon dude starting on the 1st line? 64 points in 173 games... hardly a sniper or play maker.

I think it's two things, one, he's 6'2", second, he was on pace for 40+ points last year before he got injured.

Like Leivo, he's had injurie issues and never played more than 71 games in a season, and second isn't close with 64, then 33 games played. Played with Crosby in Pittsburgh, and was spoken quite highly of. Seems to have potential, but for various reasons, hasn't seemed to quite put it together.

Hand full of days now. I like the lines Ward is trying out. Them top 9 if they can click will have some decent depth up front.

FLames put Derek Ryan and Zac Rinaldo on waivers, the Oilers put 1/4 of their team, and lots of biggish names placed as well, including Corey Perry, Micheal Frolik, Loui Eriksson, Tyler Johnson, Luke Schenn, Andrew Ladd, Mathieu Perreault.

Killington was also put on waivers today, I think we might lose, him, and Ryan.
I sure hope not.

They have to do this to any player they want to place on the "taxi" squad.

I doubt we'll lose Ryan, I think only 7 teams can fit his salary in their cap.

I'm no pro when it comes to the cap, but i think some of these moves have to do with keeping under that number. Ryan surprised me, but he is costly. Would be nice if he rode in the taxi and was available.
Perry surprised me. Hopefully by putting Ryan on waivers shows the amount of depth we have.

FYI Flames inter squad game in online tonight at 7pm

Perry knew going into Toronto he was going to play all the games this season, so to put him on "taxi" squad he had to clear waivers. I am not on the rules of the taxi squad and if after so many calls ups, whether they need to clear waivers again or if it is a 1 time deal.

Yes, I meant not going to play.... and that is priceless that he signed with Montreal. I think there is going to be some sour grapes between GM's in the next few days.

Well Bessie who can blame these Flames fans for not taking that bet. The Oilers are truly the ultimate powerhouse team of the great white north. One might say Canada’s team !!!

But rest assured Bessie, some Flames fans be a fool and some will take your bet !!!

Good luck Flames fans!!! Here’s to hoping you make the playoffs so the oil can beat ya down good. Looking forward to our battle of Alberta AO chirp offs !!!
