Default Scent can travel far…..

The wind swirls in the mountains and sometimes it works in a guys favor…. Today not so much.

The deerz winded me at 150yards ‘downwindish’ from me…. It hasent happened to me in some time….. it’s the only thing I can think that the lead doe keyed in on…. Unless there was something else stinkier than me out there.

I’ve had deer scent bust my cone of scent at around 100 yards before…. Tis a cool lesson to learn.

Anyone else get long range stink busted..?

I've seen the dogs "wind" pheasants from a remarkable distance, it seemed unreal but it seemed like she scented at about 100m +. Who knows likely a luck guess on her part. But I've also had them run directly to cover where they have found birds before, so who knows. It must be an interesting world of scent.

Other days they can walk on em!

Drink less Crown Royal. Even deer find that stuff obnoxious.

I know that 100 yards is Easy for an elk to smell us. I have a piece of dental floss tied to tithe muzzle of my gun, not as a wind indicator but as a reminder to me..play the wind.
