Default AHEIA + WIN done, CFSC to go

Was pleased today,

Passed my AHEIA course, and then completed my online form and got my WIN

The field dressing and fire arms sections were interesting on the AHEIA, but I kind of wish it went into more detail regarding caliber and ammo types etc. I also understand now the principle of field dressing, but I don't think it is something I can learn from AHEIA course, I think I will learn more being out there and doing it.

The section identifying animals was really fun, and learned a LOT…However, all the game birds….wow…that must take some time to master ID'ing them all with precision.

Found it slightly odd that I had to tick a box saying I had completed AHEIA, but didn't have to actually show proof I had.

anyhow, got my CFSC booked, got my PAL forms filled out, so as soon as that is done I can send it off!

Congratulations sir!

As to the bird ID, you should see what guys going in for F&W officers have to memorise...

That is the one crappy thing about this online hunters ed. When I did mine many moons ago, local fish and wildlife would bring in a road kill deer and gut and skin it to give us a hands on approach. Stunk a little but it was really informative.

I REALLY wish that was part of the course. I would love to get hands on to fully understanding the field dressing part.

But I'm hoping to pick up a mentor for this season who will guide me!

Anyhow, am i missing anything??

WIN - Check
AHEIA - Hunters education course - Check
CFSC - booked
PAL papers - Filled in ready to post after CFSC post is done

Am I missing any other courses I need or should do?

From my work I also have First aid/standard +CPR and First aid OFA transportation endorsement

Wait till next year.
Grads from Hunters Ed, will have to show proof.

The problem is if you've hunted anything anywhere else in the world, that you had to hold a licence for, you are golden as a first time Alberta hunter.
There is no differentiation between, deer, moose, rabbits, or grouse, they all carry the same weight, legally.

As for more info on field dressing, well, it's pretty impractical for that to be even done in a classroom, those that got the hands on are a very privliged few.

And I'd even wager no two mentors will show you the same method for field dressing game, then theres the gutless method too.

Hands on, and time served.
