Filming your hunts

Hi guys , I have a question I have recently gotten a camera that has fantastic zoom , I would like to start videoing my hunts , just wondering if anyone has some tips or even a website that could help me with techniques etc. thanks

The hardest thing about filming a hunt is turning the camera on. Use it lots, get used to having it on while you're walking around. A good tripod is an asset too. And if it's a matter of getting a good video or putting down a trophy, throw the camera in the river and make the rifle shot count.

A shotgun mic is a good idea, it helps keep the sound of the wind down on the recording, practice with it well before season

It's a nikon coolpix it's a picture camera but has video ,

i have tried this a few times some things I have learned:

Let the camera run! It often feels like you have a lot of film but when you replay it it always seems way shorter than when you are filming.

Use a tripod if possible, makes for a lot easier watching video after the fact nothing worse than a shaky camera.

Last but not least have someone else there to do the filming, seems almost impossible to get the shot on film by yourself.

It's easier if you have someone to film who can hold the camera in their hands to keep it warm. I've tried filming my own doe hunts in my stand but many times the deer walked out the camera was too cold to turn on! This resulted with me just shooting the deer and no longer carrying my camera lol. I have filmed other peoples hunts though and it's almost as fun as being the shooter.

fFrst rule is be careful of the zoom > it will tend to blurr your video shots ,it is best not to zoom any closer than around 4 power ,closer than that with a digital camera is bad .
I use a canon g12 with good results though i do have 2 extra batteries ,you will need backup every time you go out especially in colder weather.
Get a good tree mounted holder if your in a stand and a tripod for ground hunts .
I have filmed my own for years ,lots of filming and comentaries that you can edit in whenever you need a filler or a transition point between hunts or seasonal changes. noise reduction is important but you can always edit sound of a video and add music or a narration of your own with a good program.
