Is anyone having any spring goose hunting success?

Won't be any snows here until there is open water to roost on. Most birds are still south of the dakotas. With this weather we won't be into em until mid April.

Agreed....From the looks of it, the spring migration will certainly be later this spring.

A lot will depend on temperatures and any new snowfall between now and mid April. If we don't lose our snow cover till mid to late April, we may see a rather quick snow goose migration through central Alberta this spring.

At any rate there will likely be an abundance of sheetwater which means the birds can go just about anywhere and be able to feed and roost in the same field making "X" shoots rather challenging.

And muddy fields will be making access difficult as well.

The bright side of all this is a recharge of parched southern Alberta soils and wetlands,,,, and central Alberta will also have a decent runoff keeping wetlands full,,,, all of which is good for attracting local nesting ducks and canadas.

I'm probably going to get out a couple of times this spring.

My set up I'm sure won't be endorsed by snow goose purists, but it's a great excuse to get out and have some fun with the dog.

I only have a small amount of snow decoys, and it's literally been decades since they've been used, but what the heck, it only takes 1 flock to fly by for a look, to make it worth while.

Last fall I had a flock of a thousand come into a small spread of Canada decoys just east of Edmonton, so you never know. Not going to shoot any from the couch!

I remember growing up in Manitoba, all we used to get where I lived (Interlake) was snow geese. Over the last 20 years, the flyway seems to have shifted, zero snow geese and millions of Canadas.

There is nothing like having hundreds or even thousands of Snows circling overhead ready to funnel down into a field...that sound and sight is unforgettable!
