Default Channel Catfish!!!

Went to Manitoba, family getaway trip, daughter rented a Air BnB or whatever they called, at St Laurent, NW of Winnipeg. I wanted to rent a charter on one of the big lakes but ended up booking a guy out of Selkirk on the Red River for trophy catfish, literally world class!

Was a moderate bite yesterday, but we still hooked and landed about 20 cats and 7 in the “master” category.

Was a good time. I highly recommend our guide/charter, Dan Kiayrke from Cat Eye Outfitter. $650 for an 8 hour day.

Very strong and hard fighting fish, virtually all in the 13-25 lb range. Not the freight train that a chinook is but more of a bulldawg of a fish, very strong, good battle!

I appreciated Dan’s extra care in release. Seen 3 or 4 floaters from other outfitters. Should be a circle hook rule on the river as it seems easy to hook up with them and so nicely in the lip.

Congrats, great pics!!
We went in 2019 with Black Cat Outfitters. it is an incredible fishery and do your arms and back muscles ever ache after a day of fighting those beasts in that current! We caught 9 MA's in a 4 hour charter!

Always has been a great area to fish. Left there in the late 70's and did that stuff as a regular fishing day and never thought anything of it. Now I go back to do work calls as far as Selkirk and always make a stop there and sit and stare down at the bottom of the bridge are and down where we used to sit in the boat thinking we were crazy, getting sprayed and catching crazy amounts and sizes of fish there and down a ways.

My fishing partner keeps bugging me that I should always have my fishing stuff in the car with all the places I travel to but never have a ton of time or at my old age just don not feel like going for it after a long days drive and calls.

Tasty! Lol. That might be part of how the cats grow so big. Actually my first time on the Red I just got the boat in the water and watched a condom float past.

It's actually pretty tough to catch a small enough channel cat on the red to keep one. My brother does keep some smaller ones from the Winnipeg river on occasion and says they are decent eating.

Yes I fished the red for many years in my twenties and kept everything that was legal, probably why I am the way I am now

That is awesome. I miss it big time. When I lived in Winterpeg for 4 yrs. we use to go to Lockport and catch some kitties. Of course with someone who knew where they were. They were a workout. Perfect time you had
