Default New PAL processing times?

Anyone recently get a PAL? just wondering how long the processing time was. Application for a non restricted PAL was submitted July of 2020 and still waiting. Paid an updated fee, a buck or 2, still waiting.....

Did you send in a new application or a renewal?
Did you check yes to any of the questions?
Is there an angry ex out there?
Have your references been ditching calls?(new app)
Have you tried going to the CFP website and checking your application’s status?
Did you try and call the 1-800 number?

My renewal for mine took about two weeks.

I have a friend that has been waiting for 6 months for his initial application to go through and has not got his PAL yet so it is not a very quick process right now.

Alberta resident
Mailed my application via registered mail August 1
Miramichi received my application August 8
Application came online November 5
Application processed and approved November 21
Received my card Dec 2

So that works out to 117 days from day they received the application to the day I received my card, or 3 months & 25 days!
But who's counts??

None of my references where contacted, both where PAL/RPAL holders
I nor my spouse where ever contacted during the application process.
I had no prior medical or criminal history that would be of any concern to them.

This was for a brand new PAL not a renewal. I guess if its taking others 7-9 months, we're still on track. Way longer than we expected though.
Thanks!!

I sent a new application in October... damn, I’ve got a long wait ahead of me I guess. Oh well, I guess I have more time to save for the rifle and scope.

How far before the expiry date are you guys putting in for a renewal? I'm under the impression that if it passes expiry date, it needs to go through a full application again...is this the case?

This is not about a renewal, it was a totally new application

If your PAL expires you have 6 months to renew although you can't buy guns/ammunition or take your firearms anywhere during this period.

Apply early some get theirs in a few weeks and others not

Application received on 2021-12-19
Current status Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number (1-800-731-4000).

2022-03-16 I still don't have mine it's in the mail ........hopefully !

I sent my renewal in online and had the new card mailed to me in a little over 3 weeks. I was prepared to wait 6 months. I talked to them before sending as I was going to just mail it in because I wasn't sure about taking a selfie on my cell. They assured me it would be way faster online than mailing it in and it was. Glad I did it online.

Being someone who submitted for a new license recently, I figured I will add to the thread in hopes others follow suit with their experiences.

I submitted for an RPAL early January by registered mail and it shows they received it Jan 11/2022. On March 10th my visa was charged and the status was upgraded to having completed the "Initial Review".

I guess now it is a wait and see game. Nobody has called my wife yet as I believe is typical but I also have not been contacted saying I made any errors on the forms so hopefully it will go quicker now. I have no pre-conceived expectations of time though. Just hoping sooner than later... lol! I will report back with any updates!

They never contacted my wife when I applied for mine, but that was some years ago now. They also didn't contact me when she applied for hers.

After 13 months the CFO's office shipped my cousin an envelope of shreddies and told him to resend his paperwork. Being a good patch hand he immediately phones New Brunswick and chews up anyone dumb enough to talk to him. When I got done laughing he called our CFO's office. From the day our CFO got involved 3 weeks to the day he had his R-Pal. Possibly our CFO was wrong about him not helping things.

I applied for my online PAL renewal on February 16, 2022.
It came in the mail today March 28, 2022. So 5 weeks and a few days.
Most excellent.
