Found a Sweet Deal Today! DeWalt Combo Kit
If you're looking.
18 Volt Cordless Combo Kit at Home Hardware
I needed both today but came upon this deal. They didn't have any in stock so I put one on order. Will be in Friday. Everywhere else had a sale price of over $360 for the exact same combo.

I would be a little wary of purchasing those 18v tools now. Dewalt is really pushing the new 20v line. Kinda makes me wonder how much longer you will be able to buy replacement batteries.
I hope Im wrong since those are good tools.

You have to select your home store, then you will see a price.
Regarding the 18V, yeah I hope they don't pull a Craftsman and change friggin' batteries.
I had to pitch a perfectly good drill because the charger gave up the ghost, and I couldn't find another. They changed battery styles and the available chargers wouldn't work

Ah, they have 9.6, 12 and 14.4v going still. So I wouldn't be worried.
If they pull a switch-a-roo I'll insert my foot in their bum and snap it off at the knee so they'll have to drag half a leg around until they invent a foot from bum removal tool.

Just be aware, those sale kits are the old generation Ni-Cad batteries. The kits that go for $360 have the new Lithium-Ion batteries. A huge difference.
Ni-Cads are going out, that's why there's such a huge sale on. It's been on for quite awhile now at many stores still carrying stock of the Ni-Cads.
I bought that combo kit at Lowes for $199 about 4 months ago. Still a great buy. But they don't have near the storage of the Lith-Ions.

Milwaukee
I picked up a set of Milwaukee's a couple of weeks ago on a good deal. Both drills, 2 lithium ion batteries 1.5 (small)size, case, charger and a free 3rd battery of the double size all for 199. Drills were 100 bucks off and they added the extra big battery for free as well. Nice set of regular drill and hammer drill. Only used it a couple times so far and only thing is the small battery doesn't last forever. Big job at home coming up it will get a good workout soon.

Bought my last 18 v De Walt cordless, cause it was on sale at HH. Took me a couple of uses, before I noticed the batteries in the sale unit were smaller than the one I had previously bought at regular price. Not that it appeared to make much of a difference in use. Also splurged and bought the radio, which has a built in charger.

I've been thinking about the Home Depot Rigid line, mainly because of their lifetime warranty. They have a sale on a drill/small impact combo at the moment too. I definitely want a cordless sawzall though. Halford Hides sells stainless blades for sawzalls I believe.

Oh, ok. That makes sense.
Yeah, these tools won't get much action. Basically enough to pay for themselves and a little more. Just for stuff around the house. But good to know!

Oh really!
I wonder if I should cancel the order! Because the sweet deal may not be so sweet if it is in fact correct that I won't be able to get replacement batteries in a couple years. Yikes.

I bought the 18v rigid 4pc combo a couple years ago. great set except for sawz-all they have the same blade release as the dewalt but not nearly as strong, also the lifetime warranty is alot of hoops to jump through

Aww damn!! I saw your first post when I was on the road, Dave and I wanted to post a reply right away.
I wouldn't have cancelled it! Like I said, it's still a great buy. I use a cordless drill a LOT in my line of work. I burn through one every few years. I don't usually like to buy the latest and greatest just because of price. So I bought this set, knowing it was Ni-Cad....but I'm extremely happy with the set!! The batteries will last me days between charges. I've used the impact driver all day and the battery lasts fine.
You can't beat that price, and for home use this set will last many years. I wouldn't even worry about replacement batteries down the road....you'll have gotten your use out of them many times over.

It's all good, Dave!
I didn't realize these models were already discontinued. I just don't like that.
I'd rather buy lightly used over discontinued. Just feels wrong.

Peavy Mart
I picked up a 20v max lith ion dewalt set with 1/4 impact driver and 3/8 2 speed drill with case and all for $290 a couple months, I seen a week ago they had that same kit for $270, so a person can watch their flyers too. Just to note the batteries they come with are the 1.5mah hours, a 3.0 mah hour battery to buy is about a hundred bucks.
Althought the 1.5 is great for me as i only do "projects"

I agree with Calgary Dave. You can't go wrong with that set, and those chargers have been used for years, so you will be able to get them. Although DeWalt is switching to the 20v, there is nothing wrong with the 18V. I have never heard of problems about impact guns, nor have had one. DeWalt batteries also have a really good lifespan.

I have the Dewalt 1/2" 18v drill. I have had it for almost 7 years with the same 2 batteries and charger. Never a problem. I leave one battery on the charger at all times. (weeks if not months at a time) You will be able to get batteries for these for many years to come. With how long they have been out, they won't be able to just drop them completely. I can't imaging how many 18V tools are out there by now. Probably millions. Just supplying batteries for them has to make them millions of dollars.
If I needed one, I wouldn't hesitate at all. Excellent quality tools.

I got the 20v impact and drill combo earlier in the year for under $200. I think in jan or feb when all the christmas returns come back. Saw the deal on redflagdeals.com
Price was marked like $220, and scan in for less. Love them myself and use them all the time.

More recommendation for the 18 V De Walt. Been using my first one almost daily for 4 years and still going strong. The old corded drill hasn't seen any use in that time either. Another good thing is the flexibility of the battery system. Lot's of tools to use em with.

I couldn't pass up a good deal. Who cares if they're discontinued, right! Still awesome tools for years to come.
I went to Totem though. Same deal but had them in stock. Sale is on until the 29th. $199.

I bought that 5 piece ridgid set from Home depot a few months ago for 399 on sale. sawzall, circular saw, drill, impact and a radio in a bag. cant say enough good about them after having makita and dewalt cordless drills in the past. No comparison IMO.
