40 64 in 300 win mag

does any one have any knowledge about 40 64 powder in 300 win mags? ive heard of hang fires using it. does it perform well?

I've never used it and I wouldn't advise it. This is a fairly fast powder when related to a 300mag. So you require a very light charge weight to stay below pressures, thus the potential for hangfires. Larger cases are not well suited to small charges, check your reloading manuals and don't try to reinvent the wheel, or else you might wind up with a flat wheel.

X2...maybe look into IMR 4350....sure cat and Dick have way better knowledge on this

There are loads listed in some of my manuals,but the velocities are 100fps to 200fps below some of the other powders,making it a less than optimum choice.

If u r lookin for a reduced load speed wise ,,,should work ...
i was loading 150 grainers behind imr SR4759 powder...
it actually grouped pretty good at 100 and was like shooting a 22LR ,,lol
but for a regular hunting load there is so much better powders /burn rates to choose from ....$0.03

oh and if u aint on the BALL reloading and dump in a double charge ...\

hate to see that happen ...check and double check things causr things can be dangerous here ...
