Default brass length

they say alot with reloading is doing everything consistent is key is it worth going threw all your brass to make them the same size? how big of a tolerance should be used?

I'm not sure where you are going with this.
Consistancy is indeed the thing that allows you to produce ammunition that is not only accurate but repeatable.
Case length, is the most common thing to keep consistant.
Next is case manufacurer.
Then comes things like neck tension, and weight sorting of brass.

Some brands of brass like Lapua, take the time to sort by weight for you.

By length , you are talking about case length, right?
Case trrim length for a hunting round is usually .010 less than thr Saami leength.
Most guys on their hunting ammo trim the cases once they get to about .005
past the trim length - in other words, about halfway to the Saami max.
I don't let my hunting rounds get that far.
I use once fired brass, reload it once after that, then religate it to range brass.
I was brought up with the school of thought that it is better to have a case go at the range than on an animal.
Case in point ,POI of a .222 Remington , that had the base let go, was about 6" lower than the group .

Anytime I figure I've got this long range thing figured out, I just strap into the sling and irons and remind myself that I don't!
