Personally pretty ambivalent about the monarchy... but he had a good run.
RIP.

So did a lot of other 99 year old grandpas that were probably a lot more noteworthy.

Prince Phillip actively served in the military. I think some respect would be nice for a change.

You going to show their accomplishments too, or just not even make the minimal effort to make stuff up? Jealousy is so ugly.

If you can't show your respects to someone passing no matter who it is, maybe you should not be on this board!

RIP Prince Phillip

My daughter did the Duke of Edinburgh Challenge program; it is a fantastic program that involves skill development, community service and a hike. There are 3 levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. My daughter did all 3 levels. The Gold is presented by a member of the monarchy (or their representative). She had hers presented to her by the Duke himself, perhaps 15 years or so ago, when he was in Alberta.
This program helped her in her personal development. She was thrilled to have received the award directly from the Duke.
RIP Prince Phillip

Can't say this was unexpected or tragic, given his age. I always had a soft spot for him and his ability to speak out of turn.

Ched reported that he was part of 800 charities and only quit that at 96. Ya he was the queens side kick but I think he did good for himself serving the people most of his life. I'm not a "royal watcher" by any means but he will be remembered as someone who did good.

RIP.

Helluva run to go through all the changes of the world living a hair short of a century.... but boy those recent photos of him looked like a bad sneeze would take him out.

You can have issues with the concept of a monarchy but still not disrespect a person because they happen to be born into that world. The man did much and was a legit WW2 naval veteran for the allies in the theatre of battle and I think he deserves a note of respect for it all, not matter what you think of so-called royalty.

Is anyone allowed to die these days without mentioning a bit of the china flu being involved? Shocking really.

All BS aside, 99 years old is something to be admired. I'd be happy anytime past 75

Prince Philip was mentioned in dispatches, and was credited with saving a ship he was a crewmember on during WW2. He was a veteran who served the public, only retiring at the age of 96. RIP, with my respect.

While i don’t have much for the Monarchy I have respect for their position and all they have done in their lives for their county! If I recall correctly the Queen and Prince have to be some of the last “Royal marriages” between various European nations with royalty. That practice Kind of fell out of use after WWII. Cant say the Princes passing wasn’t expected in the next couple years as with anyone that age but you hate to see it. My condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Great Britain! Oh to have seen the changes in the world one of that age would have.

Public School I went to was named after him.
Met him once, many years ago.
Had a hell of an interesting life, and gave freely of himself most generously to others.
A fine example of a MAN!

RIP Sir! You deserve nothing less!

My cousin died last week...

And a couple million died from Covid-19 globally in the past 16 months...

I think Elvis is dead too, although there have been sightings.

RIP. I think he led an overall benevolent life of service for the people. He was an insider and privy to what is really happening in the world. I wish people like him before they die could have an epiphany of conscience, however unlikely and unleash the muzzle of political confidentiality, do humanity a favor by warning us about the path civilization is headed down.

Great man, not only was he a war hero but he got to shag the queen! Very few men get to claim that.

Austin Powers.

Seriously, I’m not into the royal family. But I think he and the queen are at least respectable, and acted like “royalty of the people “. I think it’s done when the queen dies.
