Default Hunting Season Done.. Camping Season Starts?

Well, for many of us, with the sun going down, the big game hunting season has come to a close.

Anyone excited for winter camping season? Any plans? What kind of setup are you running?

Hunting season is not done at all, just big game is done, coyotes are just getting going, rabbits go all winter, grouse yet, lot's of stuff available to keep us out and about.

Is that a draw or general season in your neck of the woods ?

Not a winter camper....doesn't have the same appeal as camping in the spring/summer/fall.

I've got an elk tag from Christmas day to 21 Feb, geese are on till 21 Dec. I've been thinking about snaring rabbits...

Already experiencing withdrawal, and having the same thoughts as you. I have never done any winter camping. I've been fantasizing about a tipi-style hot tent like a Seek Outside or similar, but it is not in the budget at the moment. For now, I'm contemplating maximum discomfort: a lean-to tarp setup with a fire in front of it. I was thinking of a sheet of tyvek for the floor. Does anyone have advice?

Actually, now it's trapping season, and then we'll have ice fishing season, followed by hunting season before we get camping season. Get with the program bud....

Default Backcountry Cabin

Hi: We have a backcountry cabin where we enjoy cross country skiing, snowshoeing, predator hunting, etc.

Hot tents are awesome. I'd like to get something small enough that I can have the tent and stove in a pulk behind me and snowshoe in. If there are rabbits to hunt in the area that'd be even better! Or setting up by a lake that has some ice fishing would be fantastic.

For now I have a 4 season 2 person tent and all the hiking gear but that's not as cozy. Or I have a 10x12 wall tent with stove but that's a truck-camping setup as it's way too heavy to hike. It is great for being able to bring everything and lots of guns to target shoot with and stuff. Or.. option 3, if the snow's not too deep, is quad into an area with the sled behind. That'd be fun too and a guy could bring quite a bit of gear.

Time to hunt some wolves, the hills are empty again.

I’m just glad 95% of the people are out of the hills now so when I go out it’s relatively peaceful!

Oh man lots of options out there for hot tents and diy options on both shelters and stoves that can fit almost any budget if you are willing to put in some time. Check out rokslide and look at some of the cool ideas guys have come up with for winter camping.
Lots of more affordable brands than the top names too. Yes quality might not be as good but they will and do work and if your only going to use a few times a year it's easier to justify the cash expenditure.

My main winter set up cost me less than 100$ for both tipi and stove..( I did happen upon a screaming deal on a tipi though)

Ramping up for hardwater season.
A buddy and I repurposed an old air compressor tank. Making a decent wood stove for the ice fishing tent. Best heat for an all day sit. Tank is 12” diameter and 24” long
Piping and legs will fit inside

Few finishing touches and then paint and fire
Has a baffle to keep fire from going directly out pipe

Lol. Pipe just sitting there. Ring to receive it still needs to be welded on.
