Default 6.5-300 weatherby

Im looking into getting a weatherby Mark V is a 6.5-300 caliber. Anyone have this caliber? Before i purchase it id like some in-site on this caliber in the field on big game animals and also brass availability as i do reload. From what im reading its extremely fast and flat. Thanks in advance

I know a guy who has one and he loves it, talks about it ALL the time! I overheard him at the range the other day tell someone it is 1.5" high at 100 yards and 1.5" low at 300, I'd call that pretty flat!

I have no idea about component availability.

I first read abbout the 6.5/300 WTHBY for 1,000 yard shooting in a handloader magazine article in the 700's and it intrigued me then
That cartridge would have to bee doing some crazy velocity to be 1.5 high at 1000 and 1.5 low at 300
I have experimented with some pretty large cased 6.5's as well as small cased wildcats and just tried to get the same trajectory on my computer- couldn't do iit.
Can you talk to your buddy and find out what he is running foorr components for me?
I may just build another long range plinker!

I've done some reading on this cartridge ...... and just like you would expect from Weatherby, it shoots flat with a point blank (6" assuming they mean +/- 3" in the article) to almost 350 yards, hits like a truck and has been tested to well below sub-moa shooting factory ammo out of the box.

I guess if you "only had one Weatherby cartridge" this might be a good choice - if you can afford the ammo .... lol.

I have a 257 and 300 Wby - this one slots nicely between the two - with the 257, of course, having a much smaller case (less punishing to shoot).

I might just have to get one .... just gotta sneak it into the house ....
